Well...as you can see, there's not anything in particular worth salvaging.
I was hoping for larger holes... oh well.
More pics will follow when we take out the rods and pistons.
Current opinion is that one of the injectors took a crap and leaned out #2 cilinder, causing all kinds of crazy ****.

sounds like a plan, but i hope everything works out great. i'm thinking about going turbo eventually but not in the very near future being as that my funds are kinda low for my whole project...
either way if you blow up another engine make sure its because of something more exciting than what happened to mine (going to work at normal speeds and it died)

hey SETI20, stock rods? shot peened or anything? Maybe injector cleaning/balancing next time?

Saturday was swap day... friday we were actually physically on-our-way to the shop when she let it rip. How's that for timing.
On the way to the shop...behind a ******* towing cable, I noticed the odometer passing the 180.000.
That was a sad moment... if she held on for 10 more miles, she'd seen the 180 on her own power.

on the pics the #2 cylinder is UP... so that tells us the rod broke
and on another pic the #4 also broke??

Nope I took the engine apart, 3 valves are shot, you can clearly see the piston damage smashed into them..
I have antoher D16z5 here, only this one has collected some sand inside the IM.. not weird considering the car was smashed into farmer's land @ 80mph
I might be able to make one good engine from both
