Ls/vtec smog legal?
within the next year im planning on doing a mild ls/vtec setup
b16 tranny(already got it on my LS)
b17 gsr head( got it for free!)
itr or ctr cams or even skunk stage 2 cams (not sure yet) wid springs and retainers
ctr pistons
eagle h beam rods
type R ecu
basically wat i have in mind for now.....open to suggestions...
but my question is how does this setup do on emissions...
i dont know how they do it in other states but here in illinois if you have a obd-2 car they plug u up into some computer for your smog test....they dont run you onto the "sniffers". how would it do...im curious wat all the other ls/vtec guys are doing.....i have a buddy who has a boosted gsr and last time he went in for emissions he paid some guy so he would pass, i dont wanna do that, but if it comes down to that i guess i have no choice...........

you will not pass smog
if you really want to stay smog legal you really cant do much to your car.
but for sure with that kind of compression and cams that size you will not pass for ****
but who cares just build your motor however you want and just get an illegal smog

dont listen to Ben he has issues with how things work.
so to answer you question i say if you want to stay smog legal dont go the Ls/vtec setup. or you could just buy a spare block and switch it when it comes to smog time.

hey bro
Is a stock LS tranny strong enough for the LS/VTEC conversion. Most ppl prefer a b16 or gsr tranny. Are the long gear ratios of the LS good enough????

I have a 98 B18C1 swap with my LS tranny....have had it for 3 years with no problems....yeah...the gears are long, but it's not too bad....
BTW...mine has passed smog every time...I have an OBD1 setup ('95 GSR ECU)
