Alright, so i just installed my d16y8 transmission with "no grinds."

I resurfaced my flywheel, and pressure plate. Installed everything with the proper torque specifications, replaced my main seal.

I fire up the car, and take it for a test run.........low and behold:

1st, 2cnd, and 3rd gears all feel like they wanna pop out of gear.

3rd gear grinds when i upshift (anything above 4K)

And it feels like **** overall.........

Is there any hope that this is just some minor problem? Or was i jipped for a transmission?

 

Obvious question, but did you fill the tranny with the proper amount of fluid?

If so, then i'd say you got jipped bro...

 

yea i filled it up......i'm thinking i got jipped too, unintentionally i hope.

 

Y8's only came in EK's? or were they in EG's?

i got a Y8 tranny in mine.. a 92 VX turbo.. and its my 2nd.. the 1st one, was a EG Si tranny.. and it had a 3/4 gear grind.

after talking to "Mista Bone" here at honda-tech... he helped me find out the differences of D series tranny's.. and helped me alot.

EG trannys.. 92-95 EX/SI have alum. shift forks.. tend to break and get sloppy..

EK trannys.. 96 - ? EX have steel shift forks.. havent' seen one break...

sounds like you got a crapper bro.. can you exchange it?

 

I pm'd the guy i bought it off of, i'm pretty sure he'll work something out with me - seemed honest enough.

ur lucky.. my fall back tranny was a VX.. the cars origin. you thought a DX was bad.. hahaha!

 

true, i don't know how i'd live with a 3.2 final drive

 

It's possilbe the Y8 tranny could've come from a del Sol, as the del Sol Si's chassis was classified as an EG.

i'm sure if it pops out of gears and girinds when you up shift to 3rd that you got a bad trannie. sorry to hear about this. sounds like your going to go through the same bull **** as me. but i hope your only need to do it twice now 4 times like me
