should i take out my ac?
I just bought a '92 integra ls and I've heard that taking the ac unit out will give me a few more horses. My question is since i never use the ac (I much prefer the windows down) is it worth it to take it out or would I be wasting my time? It is just a daily driver but I like a quick car and i don't have the cash to do any real mods yet.
You don't really GAIN horsepower as much as your taking some weight off the car. Of course a lighter car will travel faster. I dunno how much of a increase of speed your going to get by taking out the AC, but what will you do in the rain with foggy windows? My friend currently has no AC and when the windows fog up and its raining hard and humid he wishes he had that AC.
It might free up a pony or two but its nothing you will feel. I did it to my old 5.0 stang and it was the same just no ac. but there will be less drag on the motor (minus one pulley) I say keep it for the foggy window thing cause I know mine fog bad somtimes thats really the only time I use it or when my chick complains "I'M TOO HOT TURN ON THE AC"
if humid/rainy weather doesn't bother you then by all means, take it out. I know back when i had mine if I was sitting in traffic and needed to jump a lane, having the ac on did not help. I usually just turned it off anyways. IMO take it off

Just take the belt off....that way you can hook it back up.
If you really think it will lighten you car a lot then take it all out.
It doesn't weight much, maybe 40 or 50 pounds total.
Instead, take out your spare tire, jack, and never fill up your gas tank

yeah i took out my a/c when i put my new engine in. il tell you what taking the compressor off takes away quite a few pounds. also when u pull the whole ac it gives u much more engine room. when your windows fog all u gotta do is crack ur windows. i dont hate myself for pullin my ac.

why would you ruin a perfectly good AC system? Kinda dumb IMO. I really dont get the remove rear wiper, remove AC, etc. mods. 40 pounds will not make it faster at all, and if you ever wanna resell, it may lower the price of the buyer.

Another good function of the AC. Whatever floats your boat though

for real, i remember one time it was nice out one minute, then a sudden rain storm hit us. Being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic when its raining like hell for about an hour with nothing to cool you down except the constant sweat dripping off your face really sucked. I wish I had it still. LIke everyone said, if it doesn't bother you, then rip it out

i would take it out, like it says up top if you don't use it or don't care about sweating take it out
heat works just as well for unfogging windows..or just crack them for a minute..
you can also take out your cruise control, and or power steering to save some extra lbs..
I see they say up top your only saving 40-50 lbs total? If your looking for max HP 40-50lbs is alot
i think, pull it all save 100+ lbs which has to be noticeable, i have about a 135lb friend that i can tell when he is in the car with me, sooo!!
good luck
