or you can trick the system into thinking you still have a drivers side airbag, so that the passenger side will still work. i did this on mine...

out of curiosity.. did anyone have to report this to insurance companies? or check if it's legal in their province/state? just wondering
On the legality issue it is illegal to remove any srs devise, hell your not even supposed to race in SCCA with a steering wheel change because it lightens the car and speeds reaction times. Getting a state inspection also will be a problem.. So keep all of this in mind...
It is NOT illegal to remove your airbags in Canada. I called insurance (but didn't give out my identity) and they said it was ok.

You might want to check your sources about something.
NASA and SCCA require that the SRS system be removed for racing. Moreover, it is perhaps even a good idea if you're a Group 3/Group 4 person w/a roll cage.
If you're racing or you're all that advanced a driver, you have to face the fact that in track conditions it's very possible you will eventually encounter a situation that might set off the SRS and limit your ability to control a situation that would be otherwise controllable without the SRS.
The user "Grumpy" is NASA Safety Director and Honda Challenge Race Director. You can IM him for a verification of what I've said, if you want.
As far as the legality of it goes: If you are removing your SRS on a vehicle that will be driven on the street, then ask you local safety inspector if it will pass and be prepared to explain to him why you want or need to remove it.
There are cases where the removal of the SRS is allowed by both state and federal law.
These cases can involve a high performance driving instructor's car, or a car whose owner's physical dimensions make the SRS dangerous to have.
You can definitely still get a car inspected in some states under some conditions, but there's no way to tell for sure until you just ask your local inspector.

does insurance require that you disclose it to them though? it might be legal... but would it affect our rates at all?

Call them back, and tell them who you are and what your doing.
Then see what they say.
Technically, if you look at the laws in canada, and whats stated, you "could" in theory take them off.
But according to insurance companies (i worked as a broker who delt with leased cars) you are altering the safety devices in the car. And if you do get into a crash, and you get hurt, or something or another, they can/probably will void your insurance completely for tampering. They will usually void your insurance if they find out too, because you become a HUGE liability to them.
Theres not really a fine line, its really hit or miss with insurance companies in canada. If you call back and your insurance company says its 100% fine (using your name), post that company up, because to my knowledge I cant name one off the top of my head thats ok with it.
The only 100% legal way to get around airbags is to have legal documents stating that you can get seriously hurt in an accident if you keep them enabled based on the way you drive, ie. asian grandma driving, or the size of person you are. Its really easy for a tiny guy, or any girl, to legally have the bags out.
There was also a really really good writeup somewhere about this, I dont remember where I saw it though.
Cheers.

so would u say that buying an older car such as a DA, is ******* retarded too?
i plan on getting a harness and a roll bar later...then there's no use for the air bag anyways.
