I've read a few places that have said the synchros on the Y1/S1 etc trannies are weak and go bad quite often. What are the chances of this happening? How many here have noticed any problems with them? IF something were to go wrong, what would the cost be to fix it?

I'm not sure how much just the rings are but, when you get the shift collar and syncs. they run around $2-300

 

would that be something worth replacing while i do the swap? or should i be fine (i dont plan on doing any hardcore racing, this is for my daily driver... i might hot rod it once in a while, but i wont be dragging the car or anything)

 

well this is where you ask the question, do I want to go ahead and make sure everything is okay while it's outta the car or do I want to risk doing it all over again in a few thousand miles

 

i would do it now. i found out the hard way. now i am having to find down time in order to take it out and fix it. i have a ys1 and at high rpm it wont go into 2nd and scratches in 3rd

 

Where would be the place to get the synchros & all required parts?
