advanced timing and now car hesitates? why?
always hear advancing the timing will help a lil so i decided to give it a try. a friend helped me advance it buy turning the distributor( dont know how much it was advanced..and yes im running 91 octane). at first it was driving fine but then a little later when i smashed it at WOT, the car would hesitate and wouldnt really go anywhere. it sounds like how wrx's with exhausts sounds.
so today, i retarded the timing all the way and advanced it slowly at each point and checked to see if it would idle or ride normal(advanced it a little, turn on car to check n turned it off). but it still the same thing. what can it be?

my idle has been messed up for a while now. when i start the car itll b like 1500 rpm or some and then flutuates up and down till car warms up, then it drops to like 2-300. after i advanced it, the idle is around that 2-300 but is very lumpy and seems like its going to die out. it also kinda backfires too at idle. ive retared and advanced it, still the same thing.
