Default SMOG TEST = FAIL (please help)

So I took my car in to get the smog done today since my registration is due, but unfortunately, I failed. Here's a pic of the printout (sorry about the size):

Current Engine Mods:
AEM CAI
JDM 4-1
carsound hi-flow cat 2.5"
ITR exhaust

Any ideas on how I could resolve this issue? I need to get my registration done ASAP before I get hassled by the pigs...

most likely your cat looks like I wont be passing either

comptech icebox
jdm 4-1
smsp carsound 2.5" cat
greddy evo catback

carsound has a new carb legal cat now, quite pricey tho

first, pay your fees so you avoid the late charges if you havent done so already.

Ignition timing, thats an easy fix. go find a timing gun and fix that first.

i don't know what to say about the emissions part, because your high in all areas. But do you still have the stock components?

How old are the cap and rotor? spark plugs? last oil change? what kind of gas are you running?

Where can I find a timing gun? I still have all the stock parts (OEM header/cat) but there was welding done to the b-pipe in order for the Carsound cat to mate to it. If I wanted to go back to stock parts, won't I have to re-weld again? I haven't changed the cap and rotor since I bought the car (2 years ago, 19k miles ago), spark plugs were changed about 5 months ago, oil change was done 1000 miles ago, and I use Chevron 91 octane.

Any other suggestions out there?

Anyone heard of the Emissions Warranty Extension for 96-97 Integras? Here is a link of the old thread as reference: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=610405

Apparently the dealership will replace distributor cap & rotor, oil change, all for free. I think I might roll to the stealership tomorrow and ask them about this before I decide to make the neccessary changes before my retest. Thanks for those that replied, especially NightRider-gsR for the link and info on how you resolved your similar problem.

you're actually pretty close to passing. What I would do if I were you, is to hit someone up who will let you borrow a good cat, and go test with that cat.

All your readings show that your cat is not cleaning the exhaust content like it should. I'm 90% sure that will pass you. The other 10% is because I don't know what state of tune your car is in.

As for the timing, set it to 2 degrees retared. Just do it for the test. It will help you run cleaner. You're only allowed + or - 3 degrees for smog.

btw, I'm a soon to be certified smog tech.

why dont you get a fuel pressure regulator, and turn the pressure way down??? is that legal? my friends have done it here in illinois. Turned the fuel pressure all the way down to 25psi

do you think fuel pressure is the only reason why my HC reading was high?

My car had only been running for 10 mins before I got to the shop and I was about 3/4 full of 91 Octane fuel. Iniitially I left the car running when I got thre but I shut it off for some odd reason about 5 mins later.

Since my car has a salvaged title, my car is no longer eligible for Emissions Warranty Extension provided by Acura. For those that do have the 96-97 Integra with between 75k-150k, take advantage of this and shoot it down to the dealership as they'll have to do the neccessary repairs for free. I'm sure it wouldnt hurt.

just because they said so, doesn't mean it's true. for example, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=909268
but your warranty for the exhaust, cat, header, intake are gone for sure.
Which is basically a good amount of the emissions systems.
10 minutes only? I ran mine for a bit longer then that. did you fix the timing yet?

Thank for the info. I'm going to call the dealership again tomorrow or on Monday and tell them about this. I'm grateful for such a great H-T community

Update: So I called again the dealership again this morning and thanks to the thread provided by Mt3c, I explained to them that salvaged and non-salvaged vehicles alike are subject to the Emissions Warranty Extension. I basically read most of the thread to the service person over the phone and they had no argument against it. Appointment scheduled for 30 mins from now. Thanks for the support.

For those that own the 96-97 Integra, take advatnage of this Warranty Extension, especially before smogging.

I just slammed the hell out of my car. Got a 4 year waiver. But thats over here in Maryland. Dont know if its the same but if you have coilovers just lower it and they wont take it. They just shook their heads at me when I was in line and said it was to low so they gave me a waiver.

JDM headers are not smog legal, but if you have the JDM 4-1 ITR header, put on the heathshields and they won't know the difference. I passed with it and a modified OEM cat.

If you have the DC JDM header then you can just take a CARB plate off from a DC USDM and weld it on, which some people have done before.

dude, he didn't fail on the visual. he failed on FUNCTION and EMISSIONS. but your tips will help in passing visual.

good to hear your getting your warranty work dalixz. go find a timing gun and retest it. hopefully the place you went to offers free retesting.

All of the service was performed by a local Acura dealership today, free of charge (changed spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap & rotor, oil & filter change, wash, vacuum). Now I just need to replace my AEM CAI with stock airbox, get rid of the rest of the 91 octane fuel in my tank, replace with 87, and take it in for my retest.

Try some of that Free Emission Additive they sell at your local pepboys. I used it and I passed easily.

My mods were:

Skunk2 Stage 1 cams
Skunk2 Cam Gears
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
AEM CAI
DC 4-1 header
Tanabe Super Hyper Medallion Exhaust
Apex'i VAFC (I hid it under the dash)
AEM Fuel Rail
B&M FPR

A waiver that said I didnt have to come back for 4 years. Half the imports around here have the same thing. Right before emissions everyone just puts on some small rims and lower the coilovers. I guess the refs havent figured out whats goin on yet.
