Puffing white smoke, and ideas?
I have a 95 b18b1 and whenever Im really on it WOT people behind me say its blowing whitish black smoke and does a kinda puff when I shift... Any ideas? I only have an AEM short ram intake... Shall I worry or is it normal?
I figured it was normal but do you think its time for a rebuild and possible ls/vtec or shall I just wait for it to **** on me?
do you burn oil? check during your oil change to see how much oil drains out, most likely it's just burning oil, also check your coolant to see if there's any oil mix in there, those are 2 signs if you should consider rebuild,
Because from what I understand, if you build it right they can be reliable, and a b18c1 and a b18c5 isnt really affordable for me. I was thinking just do a stock rebuild in a few months and maybe boost. But I dont know, I would really like to just get some crower cams, CAI/H/E, cam gears, APEX'i VAFC controller, milling my stock ls head and leave it at that, just a nice torquey reliable motor.
Well i lose probably half a quart in 3000 miles which isnt bad. No oil coolant mixed anywhere. If I do decide to do a rebuild, how much would it cost to get my assembly balanced? And do you know anywhere to get a rebuild kit, and even a shop to mill my head near Fairfeild county, CT?

replace your plugs with some brand new NGKs and run some fuel system cleaner and oil cleaner...if it still persists..take the car to have a leakdown test..good luck
plugs are less than 8000 miles old, and i just used SeaFoam in my vaccum line, oil fill, and gas tank and now i use mobil 1 oil but i think it still does it. I was going to get a new distributer cap, rotor, and wires with new NGK plugs. So i agree with you but I dont know how that makes the smoke stop? Is it just not burning all the feul and shooting it out my pipe? Or could it be boiling antifreeze leakin in there?
And last time I did a compression test from 1-4 i got 170 psi, 165 psi, 165 psi, 170 psi. So that sounds good right? new radiator, water pump, timing belt, fan switch, relay, thermostat andall hoses are sealed. hmmm
