Default Blue smoke when taking off from a stop...why?

When I sit at a stop light for a minute or so, and then go I get a huge cloud of blue smoke behind me. What would cause this? My engine has 165,000 miles on it (1990 LX 4 door).

do a comp test to see if its the rings or not. if you get ex,180, 140 ,181, 179 its the rings but if you get ex, 180,140, 135, 181 then its probally the head gasket. but it could be other things as well. like the valve seals.

It does it pretty randomly. It doesn't do every time and it doesn't do it at startup, I suppose it could possibly be doing it while I'm driving, but I can't tell, because I'm driving!

My car used to do this when I first got it... I felt sorry for the people driving behind me! I took it to a mechanic and they replaced the oxygen sensor. The car was also running a DC 4-2-1 Header back then.

it the rings could be pvc.its not a head gasket and if it doesnt smoke when you first start it its probably not your valve seals.

could be the rings, valve stem seals, and if you have poor performance a blown headgasket maybe. Get a compression check to narrow down what it could be.

it would be white smoke if it were a head gasket...hes burning a hell of a lot of oil if its dark blue smoke

My O2 sensor is brand new, I changed it about a month ago. I was getting a CEL/code 2 since I bought the car in April, I found out that a code 2 was the O2 sensor on this site by you fine folks. I replaced it and no more code 2.
I was also getting a bad distributor code, I took it back to the deaer to get that and the O2 replaced under warranty. They replaced the dizzy, but not the O2 like they said they had, liars!

Hmmm...all these sound like pricy fixes, especially for a little pissant 1.5 liter engine with 92HP which has apparently had the **** kicked out of it before it landed in my hands (this car was riced OUT when I bought it, first clue, right?). I think its time for a upgrade! I can get a ZC with 35-75K on it installed for $1400, good price?
