Default BALL BEARING TURBO??????????????????????

hey this may be a stupid question..but i honestly dont know..a guy is selling a turbo to me, and when he bought it he was told it was ball bearing and this was almost 2 years ago without any oil running through it and now the wheel doesnt spin forever like regular ball bearing turbo's do....so is this thing non ball bearing, even thought it hasnt been used in atleast 2 years??? thx for your help

common sense would tell you that you need to provide more information.

like say the brand/model/number engraved on the turbo

with actually seeing the turbo, no one can answer your question with the infor you provided.

from all i know its a turbonetics 60-1..but i dont have any more info...i only ask just in case maybe someone had first hand experience with a ball bearing turbo that hasnt been run with oil or anything for a long period of time

Backing plates on all turbonetics ball bearing turbos are gold. That should be the first tip off, and you should be able to pull it apart and look at the bearings to tell.

Not true. Gold backplates are used on T-series only. It should be a blue backplate for a 60-1, regardless of whether or not it's ball bearing (Red if it has a carbon seal).

The only way to physically tell externally is to look inside the oil drain. If it's BB, then you'll see a very small hole straight in the bearing housing casting with a shiny silver bearing showing through... if you don't see a hole, then it's not ball bearing.
