Which deck would you get...
These are my 2 choices. The Pioneer DEH-P7600MP
http://www.pioneerelectronics.....html
or the Alpine CDA-9830.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1
Which do you think is the best value for the money and best overall deck.

2 choices, and 2 questions for you:
1. What are you adding on to the system, like subs and amps.
2. Do you want an OEL display?
To answer you faster, if you say yes to add ons, go with the alpine, it has stronger pre-outs. No, the alpine does not have the fancy OEL, but who cares about that. Just get a screen and a DVD player if you want **** that moves. Or get an alpine flip-out.
All i want is great sound in my car, so i stick to alpine. Plus, being a dealer has it's purks!

Oh yes we care
I never realized how nice it is before trying one myself. I know, the sound won't change because of OEL, but it is a totally diferent feel to use that hu with oel. I have the 8600 and it is really nice. I also had the 7600 which I bought for my friend...haven't seeing it installed, but the screen was much smaller than that of 8600 and I believe the 7600 is not a color oel. Overall the 8600 looked much better than 7600...it actually looks way better than on photos on the sites you buy them. If you want, spend 130 more and get the 8600

I bought the alpine cda 9830, it's ok, the frequency options are quite hard to use though, i like the deck, pretty nice..anyways the link said 279? i found it off ebay for 240 shipped, look a bit more
i would deffinetly go with the pioneer, cuz IMO, pioneer HU's are the ****! They have awsome controls and featuresto make your system sound full and clear, and great looking displays.
If your serious about that radio, let me know, i own a stereo shop in so cal, and am willing to ship one out to you if you feel you cant find one at a fair price. i know how stereo shop salesman can be.

GO Alpine the whole way! They make the best **** possible. Has anyone listened or played with their F1 Status equipment? All I can say is that I creamed my pants when listening and folling around with that equipment.
I am an avid Alpine fan - all my electronics are Alpine (head unit and processors).
Love thier stuff and will never look elsewhere!

i have an older DEH-P840MP and it has an OEL display which is just bad ***
i absolutely love it. the thing is... i love all the features more. pioneer makes their head units relatively easy to use. my brother has an alpine head unit, not too sure which, but its a pretty nice one. ive never really liked playing around with the alpines, but the pioneers are always fun for me.
try going to a place with both HU's and play with em, see what you think. this is a kind of decision you should really be making on ur own with ur own opinions. good luck

I don't think you're going to get a real answer here. There is too much brand preference.
Just go try them out for yourself and see which one you like better. Most car audio places have display units you can play with.

yes... i own one. CDA 7990 F1 Status. currently not in a vehicle in favor of a McIntosh MX5000.
for those of you that are brand loyal to Alpine, contrary to popular belief here, there is better out there... unfortunatly, anyone who is brand loyal to any brand, will never know what they are missing.
but, if you like what you have, good for you.
dave
edit: ooops ! forgot... 95Teg, between those two units, i'd choose the Alpine, simply because it does not have the current sucking OEL... are you going to listen to it ? or look at it ?

The OEL display is actually more efficient than most other displays, so I doubt it "sucks current." Besides, they all run on the same 7.5 amp fuse there big guy.

rochesterricer, did a quick and dirty test in the shop today... unfortunatly i did not have a P7600MP here... so, i took a P560MP and a P6600 ( OEL ) put a CD in, and cranked them up to right under clipping.
P560MP pulled 5.1 amps average
P6600 pulled 6.8 amps average
both use the PAL 007 amplifier chip, with identical amplifier circuits.
the 560 has the MP decoder board, however both units have a very lot in common, and about 90 % of the current drawing components are identical. the rest in the P6600 are for the OEL. the only other differences are the displays.
so where do you think the extra 1.7 amps is drawn from ?
by the way, from the 62 Pioneer units from 2003 and 2004 that are in my shop, all of them have 10 amp fuses... where do you get your info from ? did someone put the wrong fuse in yours ?
also, the CDA 9830 here pulled 5.5 amps average.
anyone need any tests done ? due to todays shipment, there are over 350 various head units here. ( most broken ) it's been a very busy day, and will be a busy couple of weeks from here.

> Also, you are worried about drawing an extra 1.7 amps?
personally, absolutly...
exactly why do you think all competition and audiophile units have simple displays, that spend 99.9% of their time with the displays off ?
ok, the OEL units are far from a competition unit, but notice that the current i mentioned was given in an average... the actual current of the OEL fluctuates wildly as different displays flash accross the OEL... even though the OEL units have a larger filter cap than non OEL, ( 4700uf opposed to 3300uf ) the power supply is not completly steady in voltage when the graphics are very extreme. what do you think that does to your audio section ? think about that for a while. seems to me that the design of the power section could have been better.
the competition units are rock steady for good reason. so was the DEH 560MP and the 9830 in the above test. like i always say, are you going to buy a unit to look at it ? or listen to it ?
all my vehicles came with a 10 amp fuse. 7.5 is too low for some aftermarket stereos if the onboard amp is used. most people dont even think about changing the fuse when they put in aftermarket stereos. it's a common problem with people who put in the JVC version of their OEL. those suck current real bad, but then we probably all know the quality... or lack of quality... of JVC.

Personally, I don't even care about those 1.7 amp. All I want is a good sounding stereo that will also have good looks to enhance the look of my interior. I'm sure most of the people will agree with me.
