Default Vtec not engaging like it should!!! HELP!!!

drives fine until vtec engages and then when engaged it makes a sort of popping noise and it kind of slows down a bit. I'm afraid to push it too hard because it does not sound good does this sound familiar to anyone??? I haven't had time to trouble shoot so i thought i would ask you guyz 1st

P.S. Just changed oil yesterday and it was a bit low after about 2700 miles of Mobil 1 i'm guessing its the sprak plugs my brother who works at Honda suggests i change them but i want to be sure before i go wasting money on something thats not causing the problem

Maybe you ran it too hard before the new oil began to circulate?

Maybe you used the wrong oil?

I dunno.

Maybe the life of the solenoid was slowly deteriorating, and then it just decided to go.

Any oil leaks or anything? The popping sound could be the release of pressure. Maybe a hole? I don't know, ahhhh! *dies*

no leaks at all anti freeze was a little low but got filled today but other than that itz clean

this happened before and i had someone take the soleniond off and check it out and they looked at me and said i had the cleanest damn solenoid they've ever seen

gave the oil plenty of time to circulate it sounds as if something is wrong with the air flow or like there's a whole in something man i dunno lol no one has had this problem?!?!?!?!?!

Well, dumb question but whats your oil level now? Did you check it after your change yesterday? Sorry I can't help further but give it until morning and someone else may be able to help you.

Some people actually sleep at night

If your plugs were bad, you'd probably notice it in the low rpms as well. Try a different ECU and double check all of your grounds (trans, everything).

Oh...and change your vtec bearing

:edit: Check you got the right oil filter too.

Go read the 'great oil debate' post. I thought we were supposed to run 5w30. Dunno if that would be a problem or not.

If it happened before, I'd suspect VTEC solenoid, or more likely, a wiring problem. Check all your connectors are tight. Check any splices. This is where I would focus on a swap with an intermittent problem such as this.

Wash the motor after the oil change? Yank on any wiring during the last work session?

Low antifreeze in the bottle or in the rad? Engine probs + low coolant = suspect head gasket. I use NO coolant. How long since you last checked coolant level? How low is 'a little low' on the coolant? Any oil sheen or droplets in the rad (check with cap off, engine running). Any white residue on the bottom of the oil fill cap, dipstick, or moisture in the oil?

hmm after all the debate and troubleshooting it was an electrical problem but.....(drum roll) it has something to do with the fuel pump the little plug in the backseat has a small short in it so i had a friend move it around a little while i was in vtec and he could basically control how much fuel the motor got with a few wires

but thanks for all the help guyz you helped me narrow it down

P.S. so note for future references if there aren't any back seats then there shouldn't be any passengers back there haha lol might sit on my fuel pump again
