Default Debating Turbo...

I've always been strong supporter for N/A... but there's just a deep desire to crossover. Just can't justify one way or another. Would it be absolutely necesary to do internals if I do go F/I? Or am I safe with stock internals? TIA!

If you don't build your engine...odds are that eventually the wear and tear on the engine will force you to rebuild it...

I know that if I were to turbo I'd be sure to do it right and build the bottom end, but I do know there are a few on here that haven't...hopefully they'll chime in and give their experiences.

I would limit yourself to about 8 lbs boost on high-octane gas. 6-7 lbs to be safe.

well, it depends on how much boost you run

if you do a basic JRSC at 5.5, you wont need to change anything really, maybe just your clutch
if you do a basic turbo kit with like 5-7 psi, you should be alright off stock internals, once again, i would do a clutch
and if you go turbo, i would get larger downpipe, exhaust, cat, and so on

im debating myself on what i want to do. I was going to buy a JRSC, then i decided not to, then i was gonna do NA, then once again i changed my mind.
im debating between all 3 choices even still, they all have their advantages.

let me know what you do and how you like it

its not absuolutely necesary to do internals, a friend of mine(itr41 on this board) has been running his turbo type r for the last 2 years on stock internals (15psi)but hes useing a inline pro headgasket and arp head studs. it can be done just dont get to crazy with boost levels and get a good fuel managment.

with the compression one itr's it would probably be wise to do some internal work, or just run low boost levels.

wow.....

i hope i have that luck.

i got a head gasket and arp head studs...im running 8 psi right now with hondata s200b and RC440 injectors. probably around 12:1 air fuel ratio. it pulls quite nicely, and on occasion at the track i plan on running @ 12 psi.

did your friend change axles? or is he running on stock ones?

id heard of an itr turbo in NOVA that ran 11.2 on stock drivetrain..

you're good to about 300whp with stock internals...

Don't over- do it, make sure it's precisely tuned and maintain it..keep boost below 10Psig and you'll be fine for a while..

you can boost on stock internals, just count on rebuilding it someday.. rebuild can run few thousand dollars on top of thousands you will spend just to get things going..

motor life will depend on how well you take care of it and how much hp you choose to run, and how good/newer condition is your motor when you first start.
