From the factory, are there retainer brackets on the balance shafts seal? Or is that something you add after you replace the seals to prevent them from coming out and dumping your oil out?

 

No, they were not installed when the factory first made the car. It was later discovered that they are prone to poping out and rapidly draining the oil. So they put out a recall for people with certain Accords to bring it in to the deal and they would put the retainer on at no charge. If your Accord was one of the one recalled and the service wasn't preformed you can go to honda and buy the retainer for like $3 and do it yourself.

try running a search on "recall" or "recalls" in the Accord forum. Someone posted up some links to recalls for certain cars, hopefully yours is one of them. Sorry, I would but I just searched it a couple days ago and feeling lazy right now but I now it's there.
