Default jumpy tach, trouble starting

i have a stock 90 crx si with some problems. one problem is starting it. the car usually starts fine, and maybe once a week or so right after i start it, it will cut off. then i crank and crank and it doesnt start. after waiting a couple of minutes, it fires right up again. weird...doesnt usually happen when i first start the car. probably after driving.

the next problem i have is a jumpy tach. this just started yesterday actually. i started the car, and started driving down the street. the tach did not move from the 0 position. once i got up to like 20mph, it jumped up and started increasing normally. once i got off the gas or braked, it would go down back to 0 and not move. what could this be? i was thinking maybe ignitor or something, hopefully its related with the problem above.

thanks

Srarting problem is most likely your main relay, very common in our cars. When it doesnt start listen for your fuel pump to prime, itll buzz for 2 seconds then shut off.
The jumping tach is usually your ignitor, sometimes this can also lead to starting problems but your car had trouble starting before the tach went crazy. I'd test your ignitor before replacing it as they are a bit pricey.

depending on how many miles you have on that car/motor, you might be ready for a new distributor. The ignitor in the cause of the tach jumping, and I'm sure it's not helping your car start either.

alright, so i switched up distributors with another known workin one, and it still doesnt start. the fuel pump does prime. however, i still pulled the main relay and tested it according to the honda service manual. everything checked out. finally, i tested the ignition coil and that seems to be ok.

so what could it be? im really lost/confused. anyone have a problem like this? im thinkin of checking the MAP sensor, but would that cause this problem? and how would i check it? it says in the manual to test with the car running or something like that.

thanks

is your alternator bolted tight? if you were working on your distributor, you might have moved the alternator & changed the timing. just throwing it out there. also, just double checking, you specifically changed the cap & rotor right?

im sorry i dont understand this. how would i have moved the alternator if i was working on the distributor? and i dont think you can really change the timing unless you turn the crank pulley or cam gear, cuz the distributor goes into the head only one way...i think. its not possible to put the distributor into 180 degrees opposite, is it?

i didnt change the cap and rotor, but i replaced the entire distributor with one im pretty sure that works. but it still didnt start.

this is what my car does. when ever i get on it like get up within 4500-7k rpm range it sputters it never used to do it just recently started. people say it sounds like the rev limiter but some times after some intense beating @ races etc. it dosnt do it. i was told maybe my fuel pump or injectors? when i say sputter i mean it spits like a rev limiter and hte tac goes wild. i also have that starting problem after driving my car when its cold (cold as in havnt drivin it for the nuight) i shut it off go to start it again and it wont wait a while it starts right up.

so i pulled the plugs, and it was rounded like crazy, and oil was all over them. the plug wires looked shabby, so i replaced the plugs and wires. then i replaced the cap and rotor, and put the dist. back together with the good ignitor and ignition coil. i go to start it, and now it sounds funny when starting. it engine rotates and the starter spins, but instead of sounding like a fast che-che-che-che, now it jus makes a fast spinning noise. could i have fucked the starter? what does the starter sound like when its messed up?

thanks in advance

it's the dizzy. I've had that problem before replaced the dizzy checked the grounds and every thing has worked very well since then. The bearing closet to the head begins to wear out which causes all of the electircal mayhem.
