IAT mod? does it work?
I keep seeing these IAT mod's for sale on ebay that seem to be nothing more than a resister hooked to the IAT somehow. Does anyone know anything about these or how to do it and if it works? If it does give the hp gains i'll try it but i can't see paying 25$ for a resister and instructions. Also can it be set up to be adjustable?(potentiamoter, i think) .
thanx for any info,
chris

^^^^sounds like someone who sells them on ebay!!^^^^
It's a crappy mod at best, since it can do long term damage to your engine and catalytic converter and gives you very minimal extra power if any at all. The ecu runs the engine richer when it thinks the intake air is cold. It does this primarily to make it run smoother, NOT to add power. If you run your engine rich all the time when the air is actually warm, it will accelerate engine wear because the extra unburned fuel washes the oil off of the cylinder walls. It can also ruin your cat., which ain't exactly cheap to replace. Do it if you want, but it is a stupid hack that at best will only gain you 1-2 hp, and NOT even at WOT, which is the only place you need it, right?
If you *must* do this hack, just go to Radio Shack or an electronics store and buy a 3.3K ohm 1/4 watt resistor for less than $1 and stick it in series somewhere in the IAT sensor circuit. To find out more about the mod just do a search here on H-T for "IAT sensor mod" or "IAT sensor resistor", or go to clubrsx.com and search for "timing advance". Be aware that many H-Ters spell sensor and resistor as senser and resist er , lol. It's a shitty hack, but keep your money instead of giving it to lousy ebay sellers.
