Aligning steering wheel - Adjust tie rod ends per Helms, anyone done it?
Got 1141 aligned PROPERLY today. Nice improvement.
Steering wheel is still 5 - 10 deg to the right, and I'd like to fix it. Helms says play with the tie rod ends (rotate even amount left and right on the shafts to correct). Anyone done this? How does it get that way to begin with, and should I worry, or just do it and never look back?

They seemed a bit rushed, but the numbers came out ok. I guess he just skipped that part.
What's with all this 'dude' stuff?

it is "dude" not 'dude'
and they are dorks...
anyway, the "guy" doing the alignment should have used a 'deadman' clamp to lock the steering wheel after he centered it. take it back.
the sequence to align is simple, center steering wheel, lock it in place, THEN align the wheels, which is done by adjusting the tie rods. It is actually pretty simple to do yourself with string, jackstands and a good stainless ruler with 1/32" graduations on it. you make the slip plates out of plate steel with bearing grease between them...

Fixed today, thanks all. I didn't notice it until I was out of there, and had an appointment to make. Knew I'd be back by there today anyway.
Found driving in today it was actually more like 2-3 deg off (very slight)
on me. It was made right.
I like the home brew alignment setup idea above. How do you set the camber though?
My toe was off before alignment, but the camber on all 4 was WAY off (-1.3 - HS!). I didn't think stock ITR's had that much camber adjustment. WTF? Must have been the former owner's 'mod' to tuck 8" rice rims and 225's under the stock fenders with lowering. :shakes head:

camber cannot be set on a teg without a front camber upper a arm like a skunk. you can adjust the rear camber with washers beween the link and the body. If toe is set correctly and you dont slam your car like a stunna, you wont have any adverse tire wear issues and the car handles alot better with 2 degree neg camber anyway, especially for autox and track
