Lots of RPM's but little GO (HELP!)
My car has been feeling weak and sick.
1 - When I put it into gear, the RPMs go as normal, but the MPH go slower than usual.
2 - Also When I'm driving, or at a stop. The VTEC doesn't engage all the way. (I can hear it but no pull
)
Funny cause I didn't notice these problems till I took it in to Acura for its 30,000 mile maintenance. So I decided to ask them when I did my Oil change recently. They said I had to do $80 diagnostic, but before I go throw $80 away. I was wondering if you HT members have had the same problem and what should I expect. From what I read, Acura dealers are shady and want to avoid as much misunderstandings as possible. I just hope it isn't anything big, my thoughts is the clutch. crossing my fingers.
Thank you guys for your time

im betting the clutch. if the motor doesnt sound different, and isnt giving you any probles but the slow acceleration, then its deffinately the clutch. my friend just had this problem with his ls.

Clutch at 30K, especially hard driven, sounds right on. The trade off for easy feel and decent grab with R HP. Mine was not slipping, not damged (yet) but at rivets on one side at 40K. Was giving signs at 30K, and not THAT hard driven.
Any noises or chatter at clutch engagement prior to this?

When I press on the clutch it makes a squeeking sound, and sometimes its hard to put into gear like third. My car has 40K now, if it is the clutch. How much does a repair (replacement) plus labor run?
leave the car park on level ground with engine running, put in 3rd gear and let go of the clutch. If the engine does not stall right away, your clutch is slipping.
"put in 3rd gear and let go of the clutch. If the engine does not stall right away, your clutch is slipping."
is that a proven way to see if the clutch is going?
cus i think mine is going.. but without ripping it apart.... i wouldnt know

if it's slipping bad enough...
you should be able to tell when it's slipping though, it's fairly obvious..

if you give it gas and you see the rpm go up but your not going any faster then your clutch needs to be put in the garbage.

$400 to $450 parts and labor or just labor?
What pisses me off, is that my car was running great! and since the service tech guys seemed cool. I went ahead and did the maintance, and ever since then nothing seems right.
What really got me thinking that is wasn't just in my head. A couple of weeks ago I was driving and questioning my cars proformance. When I decided to test it, I figured that the ITR has pretty good acceleration. So maybe if I slow down and wait for car to pass me and see how long it took my car to catch up. I would slow down to like 60 and maybe a car past by like at 70-80 Well let me tell you, just about every car were giving me trouble. I would floor that gas pedal and the car feels the same, even when the VTEC engages. It doesn't even lunge or pick up speed, I can feel the motor kicking but no pull.
I was wondering could it also be my timing?

most shops here on the eastcoast will charge roughly $250-$350 just for labor.
i said $400-$450 jsut for labor.... thats on the High side. (i.e. dealerships, famous performance shops)

West coast deal price labor is $300, expect more for a good shop. Parts from Len ran me about $300 (dont remember exactly, give Len a call) last month (clutch 'kit' - clutch [pressure plate], disk, throwout & pilot bearings). So I guess $600 - 750 (roughly, complete). I did the labor myself. I'm good, but gawd what a biznitch. Next time will be easier tho.
If it's not the clutch check the distributor coils. Mine have went bad twice. Car pulls like butt on the top end.
Another way to check the clutch is to slam through the gears. If your rpms don't drop right away or at all (if you stay on it) thats a good sign lol.

I'll try that, I haven't really driven Hard because I don't want to be without a car. I made a appointment with another dealership for tomorrow and will get back some info on what the car needs. I guess I'll take steps from there.
