Valvo cover bolt. uh oh.
ok i re-did my valve cover and when u went to torque the bolts down i accidentally snapped one of them. my question is, how bad is this? i dont have any money to fix it anytime soon but can i still drive like that without fear of oil leakage from the seal? its on a D16Y8 thanks guys
D16Y8. the bolt snapped right where it threads into the head. i dunno how i can get it out. plus its my only car so i just need to know if its drivable

You will probably get some oil leakage...but i'm sure its driveable.
Get a craftsman easy out...thats how I got mine out when I broke it...took like 5 mins

dude you shouldnt need a freakin BOLT EXTRACTOR, wtf is that all about.
I broke one of those bolts too, on my d15b7,
they are fragile and you're supposed to torque them to something like 7lb/ft only, so if you give it normal bolt torqueage(like 20lbs or something) you'll snap it off .
anyways, just take off the valve cover,
and look down there at the broken off bolt,
you'll probly see that the bottom of it has another "bolt head" down there, grab onto it with a normal wrench if you can reach, or a really deep socket, and take that out, replace it with a new one, and ur set!
You might get screwed at the honda dealer for the part though(u aint gonna find it elsewhere thats for sure). I think i payed like 15-20bucks for just one of those!!

dude all you gotta do is take the valve cover off and look at where the busted stud is. honda makes it easy. the stud is bolted down and has it's own head you can grab with the same size socket as the one you snapped. it's almost as easy as putting up a thread
honda sells the stud for cheap, good luck

I don't think that way will work because he said it broke off where it threads into the head. See below...

The Easy-Out should work since these bolts don't get torqued real tight. Just make sure you buy the Tap Handle a.k.a a Tap Wrench if you don't already have one.

yeah, theres no oil pressure under the valve cover, so it's not like its going to try and EXPLODE out of there

Haha...funny story for you guys...
I broke the same valve cover bolt for the 2nd time when installing my cam...and the hole is FUCKED (i need a new rocker arm cap now). So my quick fix was cutting the bolt in half, and then rtv'ing the half bolt in there (looks like a dummy bolt) but hopefully there will be no leakage!

hmm, crazy
so basically your valve cover isnt held on by anything at that spot?
but the hole is plugged up?

yah they dont gotta be torque'd down too hard... all the small 10mm on the head/block can easily be snapped. especially when its still warm...

gasket seal was a good alternative just to keep the washer stuck on the valve cover and sealed...too buff and broke the stud...
lol
lol
Yup those bolts break easy, which is why you don't torque it down hard (7ft/lbs as the other guy stated). I basically tighten it screwdriver tight; it means I don't use the lever on the ratchet when tightening. Haven't broken one since.
I did the same to mine about a year ago on my y8. I have had minimal leakage. I tried to tap it out with no luck. The parts guy said that the metal is so strong and the drill bit is so thin it will just snap. I am just gonna get a new head.
man I broke one of the long valve cover screws on the backside of the valve cover and man that was a pain to get out, as I didnt have the proper tools. It took me 2 1/2 hours fiddling with a screwdriver to get that little piece out of there
. Just one of those screws cost me $6! They must be magic screws for that kind of cheddah.
