Default My Honda Civic VX

hi everyone. I have a 92 Civic VX hatch and I'm thinking about modding it a little bit. What kind of modifications should i do to the D15 engine to get the best performance? I think stock the engine has 92hp and i'd be happy with a 10-20% gain in hp, but i want to know what you guys think.

Is there a good website that features the VX or hatchbacks only? Also what types of brands are best for use with the D15.

honestly, the honda civic VX engine is about as low on as you can go power wise... take it out and put a b series in. really the only option.

the cheapest most worthwhile mod is to swap it for another d series... get a d16z6 or sumptin' like that, prolly cheapest upgrade you can make, they are dirt cheap engines and you'll get somewhere around 130hp

I love my VX. it's not the slowest civic, not by far. sure it's only got 92hp but it's also super light, lightest civic for that gen. and due to that it's faster then the DX and can keep up with the Si in first. the vx engine (d15z1) thou has very small valves, that is restricting it to see any major power. so yur best to just swap in a new engine. a d16z6 would probly be the best bang for your buck. but it you need to keep the z1 the week points on it are the throttle body (only 48mm ouch), intake manifold, header, and te tranny. swap thouse out for even stock Si/ex parts and your car will be pretty peppy.

i also love my VX, it really gets up and goes for only 92hp. I even beat the 99 prelude until Vtech, lol.

I've never attempted such a large project, i'm fine doing small things but taking out my engine seems daunting to me. Price wise, the D16z6 is much better cause to buy all the parts to replace the "weak parts" i'd be at the same cost anyway.

What does it cost to get a B16? Maybe i'll do that after i graduate from college and get a real job.

Ok, so basically what you guys say is just to leave it stock becuase the gain is negligible. I want to lower it a little bit too, is there anything wrong with just getting springs and lowering it so it'll settle around 1.5" lower?

Bolt on Gains are going to be negligable on your stock engine.

Don't waste your money on bolt ons, save for something like a d16z6, b16a, b18c, b18b, etc...or don't mod your car at all.

If your motor is in good condition, you could always go for a mini-me setup. You might be better off just dropping in a D16 though, has more hp & more tq as well. If you absolutely don't want to swap, then look into an si/ex tranny, it will be a noticable improvment over the longer gearing of the D15 tranny.

If you are only looking to get a 10-20% HP gain, throw a turbo on that bitch. There are plenty of homemade kits out there that spent less than a G. A B series swap will CERTAINLY cost more than that unless you get a B18A/B and that is still pushing it. Another D seires will cost about 500...may as well throw a little bit more money on there, turbo that **** and be a leader not a follower. Work with the engine you have.

Yeah, a new trend is beginning with just ditching original Honda engines? My opinion is if your happy with the VX just follow what SkRiBlah said and get a turbo.

Don't do a mini-me on a VX...the dish pistons won't allow it.

Your best option is to get a D16Z6 transmission first...and then go from there. For all the work in changing the VX parts, you might as well just get a full JDM D15B or D16Z6 swap.
