Default new integra owner questions

I just got my new integra, 96 gs-r.. I just have a couple questions.

There's a red light in the center console that doesn't go off, I have no idea what it is, need some help there.. the other problem is, apparently, the brake lights don't work at all.. what could be causing this/how much of a problem is it to fix? The lights flash when I remote lock or open the car so it seems like the bulb isn't dead or anything, but using the brake = no brake lights, not on the spoiler as well.

Well you can check where your alarm wire goes (the one for the brake lights) and see where that leads and see if maybe it's the fuse. sometimes people install the alarm and hook up the light by slapping the cables into where the fuse is. Good luck.

What exactly is the light in your center console that you're talking about? Aftermarket alarm?

You probably have to reset it somehow if it's that.

If your brake lights are blinking when you arm and disarm your alarm, then maybe check the actual physical brake. And see if the connection is okay. The fuses should be fine.

Yeah, it's an aftermarket alarm, didn't realize that's what it was at first.

I'm going to check some of the things suggested here then I'll report back.

The alarm doesn't seem to be working at all, the light in the middle just stays on as well. Could the alarm/brakes somehow be connected?

Does your alarm successfully arm and disarm the car? (i.e.: Does the door lock and unlock?)

Your alarm might be stuck in "Valet mode." Do you know what type of alarm you have? Look around the car, usually in the footwell area. Is there a small switch/button? It's usually kinda hidden.

It's a clifford, i'm not exactly sure which kind. It does lock and unlock the door, but I have 6 other buttons which apparently do nothing I'll go check that out, thanks.

Alright cool.

Check out this site: http://www.directed.com/

It's DEI or Directed Electronics Inc. They make pretty much every alarm out there including yours. See if you can find the specs to yours and maybe it will help you out.

Until then, check your physical brake pedal and inspect the wiring down there. I don't remember exactly, but it's similar to a momentary switch like the one connected to the E-brake (causing the BRAKE indicator to light up on the cluster).

I found a manual for the alarm system hidden in the car, code included, messed around with it, got it working correctly, and still have the problem.. I'll check out the rest as soon as it stops raining so hard here.. where exactly in central nj are you? middletown here.

i got a clifford too. my friend hooked it to where all the buttons on my key remote does something. i only have four buttons on it though. its pretty cool and very convenient. one pops the trunk, one sets and turns off the alarm, one unlocks and locks the car, and the other is the automatic alarm. look into it!

Oh ****....yeah it is raining hard here. Exit 120 off the parkway for me. Just moved a few months ago from Aberdeen/Matawan. Now I'm in shitty Laurence Harbor. (The good part, y0! where the new town houses are). My parents wanted a smaller place now that I'm getting older and about to move out.

Small world, eh? I'm like less than 10 minutes from you.

You got it working correctly, but you "still have the problem." What problem? The brake lights not working?

I mean, I got the alarm system working correctly, the brake lights continue to not work

I checked the fuse, it's fine. I'm looking for that brake light switch but really can't find it, anyone able to give me a more specific place where it is?

Did you check the bulbs? There are two fillaments in the bulbs (one for parking lights, one for brake lights). Your alarm will be hooked up to the parking lights. You might just need a bulb.

If you arm/disarm the alarm and your front blinkers flash, then you know your alarm is hooked up to the parking lights.

Checking the switch/bulbs as soon as I get up tomorrow.

I have one more question, the car seemingly runs fine but there's a slight rumbling and a rattling noise that seems to be coming from under the hood, it's kind of a combination of rattling and a slight whistling noise ...no clue what it is.

Does it make the noise when you rev the car in neutral?

If so, just pop the hood and listen to where it's coming from.
