Default big mufflers, small sound

I just got a bone-stock low-mileage '91 accord for a great price.

I was thinking of putting one of those large diameter mufflers on it 'cuz I like the way they look.

But I dont like the way they sound. Sorry.

Can you get those things big and quit too??

Most of the reason they sound like **** is due to people only buy the muffler versus getting a cat back or 'full' exhaust.

If you want a very quiet muffler I went with magnaflow...but don't do it for "looks" necessarily; granted you won't get much power either

if he doesnt want the sound then he shouldnt get the cat back...with a whole cat back exhaust his car will be loud which is what i think he doesnt want...just a get a muffler to replace the stock one, that will give you the look you want and it will not be much louder than the car is now

I love my WS II, although the stainless steel muffler is a little too bling for me. If I had the choice (and the extra money), I probably would have went with the RS*R EX-mag. Its even quieter, the muffler is painted black, and the tip isnt too big, but its usually about $100 more than the Apexi WS. But I still love my WS.

Thats a false statement. Adding a muffler makes your car way louder than putting on a full catback. Ive heard so many ricers with just mufflers and their stuff is loud. He wants a big can and big cans are loud. Id say pick up a Apexi Dunk series or a HKS Super Drager catback. HKS Super Drager is sooooooo quiet. I have one on my V6 Accord and ive heard one on a s14. A universal big can muffler is going to make your car sound obnoxius.

Well you can do a universal with new piping and a big resonator and it will sound good. The bigger the resonator the quieter it is.

I'm in the same boat, I don't want a super loud car. Right now I am running a flowmaster with 2.5'' pipping and a bigh flow catalitic converter (no resonator) and believe me, thats not what you want if you want quiet. So far, I have found that if you run a stock setup with a new muffler (or can, whichever you prefer to call it) it is pretty quiet, looks nice, and adds a bit of that agressive sound. Not much if any power gain though...

I have the magnaflow on my 97 and the sound is great but it does get increasingly louder as you break it in. Maybe try one of those systems with the silencer that you can remove if you want.

Why not just put a new tip on it? If he just wants the look of the 4 inch tip just have a shop install a 4 inch outlet on his factory muffler?

Yea if he doesnt want the extra noise a new tip is a good idea
