Default turboed civic not performing (why?)

my friend has a 99 civic coupe. and just bolted on a edlbrock turbo kit. He went to the track and ran a 16.3. now i am not to sure on this matter but that seems a little slow for a turbo. it's and sohc vtec. with the kit. does anyone know the specs on this ie: 1/4 mile times, Horse power output or have any experence with this kit. any info would be helpful. he want some answers.

pretty sure it should at least run some sort of 14.

Is your friend a bit slow? i.e, reaction time is really bad, slow shifting, waaay to much wheel spin off the line?

i think his reaction time was like pretty slow 1.900 or something around there but he said he didn't get any kind of wheel spin and he didn't sandbag it either it's also piggybacked right now waiting for some type of computer?

need more info. 16.4 sound slike stock civic times. recheck all connections. I remember my car wouldnt boost twice. Oncew was because I had a leak on the exhaust manifold (bolt came off) and the other time a coupler came off. Does he have a boost gauge. If he isnt building boost, that would be a good starting point

yep, check all connections. One time my turbo wouldn't boost above 4 psi and I couldn't figure out why ... then after a lot of trouble shooting, I figured out that the hose that connects from the turbo to the ic piping wasn't fully connected ...

also make sure all the hoses are tight. I've had it where a few times there was pressure in the i/c piping that blew the hose right off the piping ... so ... boost leak.

well he says he's boosting around 7psi or 8psi around there i am not sure i didn't run with him granted he has weight in his car because it's mostly show but the turbo is functional and it sounds mean. what's stock time for a civic with sohc vtec. just stock.

How do you figure. People post 13 sec times all the time from greddy kits. The edlebrock is more complete than greddy. I cant see him boosting 8 psi and running 16.4 unless he cant drive for ****. I mena he would have to be residenttial driving on the track to go that damn slow

let see the whole time slip the 60 foot time and the trap speed. with the 60 foot u can tell if its driver and the trap speed can say if its fast enough for a 14. the reaction time wont change the quarter mile time.

how bout getting a dyno run and seeing what power you have on tap? then you can figure out if it's the turbo, the driver, or something else.

here's the link to edelbrock:

You are leaving something out. Tell your friend to read all the replys here and make a post on your screen name. There is no way he is getting 8psi into the intak manifold and running 16's.

i'll try and get the slip from him but won't be till next week. i know that seems very wrong though. what should he be running with that kit. cause i am not sure he is disappointed with the result but it's only his second time at the track i don't know what he is doing wrong i'll let him know of these post and tell him whats up.

might also want to try to drop the exhaust and run it open downpipe. boost might not be building up very well until up high in the RPM's. Check and double check every charge pipe hosings as well as fuel injectors etc...

Btw whats his fuel management?

Or you could try punching his face repeatedly until his stunna *** learns how to drive. Tell him to shoot himself.

The time slip doesn't mean much. I mean, it should be low 15's to high 14's at 7psi.

What exhaust is on the car, stock exhaust holds back turbo performance a lot. What wheels/tires were used? Bad tires = wheel spin which would mean crappy 1/4 mile times.

Need more info on how the setup is actually running, just a time slip isn't enough. If you don't think its running right, he can call the Edelbrock tech line, they are real helpfull in sorting out turbo issues.

LMAO! so true, but seriously "mostly show" is the key... heavy anything (stereo, rims, etc) will absolutely KILL a honda's e/t. also keep in mind the edlebrock kit is designed as a one-piece buy kit (EVERYTHING is included) and also was designed for legalities rather than performance.

in all i can picture civic coupe with this kit, 17 inch rims, and any sort sound system combined with an amatuer driver easily running a 16 second pass.

anyone else have this kit that can chime in their .02??

May be a dumb question but, did he upgrade his injectors? MY friend thought he had bigger injectors that he bought from someone on HT and it turned out they werent. He dynoed a wopping 129 WHP on his turboed D16z6.
