OT: Digital Camera Recommendations
I'm in the market for a new digital camera. I know there are a few photographers here, so anybody care to make a recommendation? Yoshi?
Sony DSC-F707 5.0mp. But Canon has a sweet new lineup out (I think) might be minoltaHey Len, thats pretty much the same lens I have on my 35mm. Only its Sigma...good stuff

I've got the F707 too, but it's been replaced/updatad with Sony's F717.
Sony also has an 8 mega pixel camera out.
Personally, I'd get something like a Canon or Nikon next time since they have many more lens selections available than Sony does (not that I was unhappy with my F707 as a first digital camera).

Same here
I actually purchased the Fujifilm Finepix A330 and I am quite impressed with this camera. It comes with 3.2 million effective pixels. 1/2.7- inch lcd screen, Zoom in 3x optical and 1.6x digital, and a 16mb xd-picture card. For an inexpensive digital camera I would give this one a look for sure

What do you plan to take pictures of? Sports/action? Candids?
How much money do you have to spend?
Do you plan on making a lot of prints? What is the maximum size you see yourself printing?

the Canon Digital Rebel is excellent... great for the price (1000 w/ lens)... It has a plastic body, so it is somewhat flimsy feeling when using a larger lens (like the 20-300 f2.8 len was talking about)... if u need a more rugged camera, then the eos 1D is the way to go (1000 w/o lens)... otherwise the D-Rebel is one of the best bang for the buck D-SLR cameras out there...
Just bought the Canon Digital Rebel also. Can't wait to get good at taking pics with it. Off to Cancun tomorrow for da honeymoon. I'll take some cool pics hopefully.

You mean a 10D?
Unless you can find me a Mark II for $1,000. I have had the Digital Rebel, and it has to be the absolute best camera. It's light enough to carry around with you anywhere and it takes outstanding pictures. My only gripe was that it was plastic and I kept banging it around and I was afraid that it would damage the internal. I have replaced my Digital Rebel with the 10D, and I must say, the sturdiness and quality of the 10D far surpass my needs. But for an additional $500 it was the next logical step.
Also, if you're looking for SLR performance, check out the D70. It beats the Digital Rebel in alot of test and for the same amount of money. That's Nikon. With a nice Nikkor Lens, you'll be set.
Alot of the newer Digital SLRs out today offer outstanding image quality if used by the right person.

I've got a Sony DSC-V1 which I really like. I've posted many pictures with it. I also have Len's old Digital Rebel. I just got a 300mm lense for it and it feels funny on the plastic body Rebel. I have to say that the Digital Rebel is AMAZING! It's big, not easy to tote around, but the quality is amazing. The digital Rebel also has AMAZING battery life compared to a regular digital camera. One down side to Sony's are the memory cards...the are $$$ compared to others. I bought a 256mb Sony card 6 months ago for $119 for my Sony DSC-V1. I bought a 1gb Compact Flash last month for $119 for Digital Rebel. Same price, 4 times the memory. One down side to the digital Rebel is that the USB system is 1.1 (only 11mbit/sec) where most new ones are USB 2.0 (480mbit/sec). It takes forever to download a tons of pics over USB 1.1. You can also get a USB 2.0 memory card reader which is what I did since I am very impatient.
Almost all cameras on the market today take good pics. Look at battery life and determine if you want one that you can put in your pocket.
Research research research. Do your homework and I'm sure you will be happy with what you get.
Oh yeah, thanks for the Rebel Len!

I have the Canon S400 and its really nice. Takes excellent pictures at 4 megapixels. Very small too. However, my camera is no longer made, so you would need to get the newer model in the S410.
I'd recommend the Canon S410 or the S510 if you are looking for a small camera that takes excellent pictures and is full of features.

YEah, if you like spending $4000 for the body and another $3000 for the lens. For a smaller budget, you could get a 10D for about $1200 and then a 24-70 f2.8L and a 70-200 f2.8L IS like I'm running
BTW, these pics were all taken with the 10D and the 70-200 f2.8L
