Default B16a motor swap problem into CX !!!!

hey i have a weird problem with my swap.

93' CX
b16a3 with obd2 GSR harness with obd1 b16 ecu

swapped the motor in and wiring ect... i didn't have to cut any wires, everything plugged in.

problem, dash lights stay on with key removed. when i start the car, it runs fine, but when i remove the key it still runs.

i'm guessing it has something to do with the igniton or something, but i don't know.

any ideas ?

i know this might sound stupid, but try hitting your hazard's when the key is out and still running. tell me what happens.

hmm..... ive never heard of this when doing a swap, unless you messed with the wires inside the cabin. Did you touch anything in the cluster at all?

I didn't mess with any of the wires inside the cabin, except to put the b16 ecu in. I don't think it's a faulty cluster, maybe the 12+ ignition is getting power somehow with the key out....

i'm stumped

i bet it has something to do with the OBDII harness, i know its alot of work but if you can, swap it out for OBDI.

it's been done before and i know that the OBDII harness works, but its the only i see that could be faulty

that's what i was thinking, the harness, but my friend has a 92' Si hatch, with a obd2 gsr harness with a LS/VTEC.

that's why i thought i could use it. i'mma see if i can find a obd1 harness.

or should i just ecu's to see ?

No it's probably not the OBD2 engine harness. Unless that particular harness is damaged or something, there's no way the harness is causing the problem just because it's OBD2.

Sounds kind of like an ignition switch problem, or a grounding problem. Have you checked all of your grounds?

i know that it works because of seeing your swap(pics). i know that it works, however it has something to do with the wiring, the cabin was not touch so that leaves the engine bay harness...

thats was just my .2 that i gave up top, if it was my car, it(the OBDII harness) would be the first place i will try to trouble shoot.

Does this thing have a alarm on it? Or have you recently pulled a alarm off of it?

I assume by b16 ECU you mean the USDM P30 (Del Sol VTEC style y0!). You might try a P28 (5G ex/si). The maps are definately not great for a B16, but it should still run, and may pinpoint the ECU as the problem. I run my JDM B16 off a Kenji-chipped P28 and it is great.

Also, I believe the cx's "engine-bay-through-the-firewall-to-the-ECU" harness is not wired for VTEC (only 5G ex/si/vx are). If you wired this yourself, it may be possible that you used the wrong pinout on the ECU side. I dunno, just throwing out ideas...

I dug this up because I remembered reading about a similar problem a while back. Click here. I realize you said you didn't mess with anything in the cabin, but again, just another idea for you to consider.

BTW: I found that thread by searching on "hazard engine running" in archived content post bodies. Try some similar searches with some different keywords and you may be able to find a solution.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck to you!

You did NOT cut a corner!

You better save that engine harness in case you swap another one in and you still have the same problems.

People run the OBD2 engine harnesses all the time, myself included, with ZERO problems.

Again unless your specific harness is fucked you won't change anything by swapping harnesses.
