d16y7 to d16y8 swap
ok if i dont want to get the ex ecu for my dx, then i wouldnt have vtec...but if i got a vtec controller could i wire up my vtec solenoid and stuff to the controller? would that make vtec work?
you need more than just an ex ecu to essentially add vtec to your dx motor. you need an ex cylinder head, vtec solenoid, an ex ecu and a few wires...
adding a vtec solenoid to a dx cylinder head? I don't think that is going to cut it.
A dx cylinder head just isn't designed for vtec at all. Believe me, any idea that you can come up with to add vtec to your dx has probably already been thought of.
If you want vtec, don't try to take any shortcuts, just get the forementioned parts and enjoy.

if you read the topic, he is doin a y8 swap and needs to know how to make vtec engage.
in answer to your question, you should be able to get by without the ex ecu as long as you have everything wired up and have either push button vtec or a vtec controller. the best way though is to get the ecu.
