The surprises keep coming...
Just found out my used R has ls headers to go with the b16 TB. Goddamit...whoever owned this car before me was a freakin jackass. You ruined this car. Trying to take the VTEC oil transfer tube out with pliers and your pocket knife...yeah...you know who you are!!!

The metal oil transfer tube/insert (looks like a valve guide) underneath the cam shaft stay. Near the #1 cylinder. Transfers oil to the hollow plate that bolts on over the rocker arms. I don't know what the part description is exactly--I kinda have to make something up. I was told that it is a oil transfer tube in the shortblock that feeds oil to the VTEC solenoid. Its the same as the external oil feed on an LSVTEC set-up except internal. I put my friend's ls heat shield on and it fits perfect. The Type-R heat shield I ordered from the factory didn't fit so I tried his and it fit like a glove. SICK!

Yup, goes nicely w/ fraud in this case. I wouldn't take this one lying down, and why are you protecting the identity of the previous owner? If he was the only one who owned the car before you, this would be an easy case to have a field day w/. I hate thieves.

Look at it this way: Now you can build the car up to your liking, using the parts you want to use and confident that it has been done correctly...
Good luck.

I understand that the buyer should research the cars history before purchasing the car but even if he did it still would be hard to tell the difference between a b16 throttle body and an itr throttle body unless he had close up pictures of the both to compare the differences same goes for the header. I doubt you'd have pictures of most the important parts of a motor to compare with to a car your about to purchase.

we're not hating...If this were any other car, it might not matter what the previous owner did to it as long it ran. But this isn't just any car, this is an R. Most parts are pretty specialized, and when you buy a used one, you want to make sure that most of the part are authentic.
Yeah, the seller is a doofus for replacing the parts with sub-standard parts, but the buyer is a bigger doofus for not seeing that before buying AND THEN complaining to other ITR owners about it.
Again no sympathy from me...the best you can do is replace all f the doofus part and be happy with what you got...AND stop whining.

I think your raising the ITR a little too high in this case. Yeah its a great car but damn, would you have checked the tb before you bought a car?

You guys got to understanding that not everyone is a mechanic. Many of us only did basic research of a car before buying it, especially an used car. Not everyone had all the knowledge of every pieces, from nuts to bolts of the car. How would you felt if you're in his shoe. Remember, everyone start learning a car at some point.

Well obviously he's a good enough mechanic to realize he got a bum deal after the fact.
Secondly, I'm not putting the R on a pedastal here, but most R owners know their parts.

I do understand that its no one's fault but mine for getting the shaft. However, like one of the previous posts above stated...I would be hard pressed to find someone who with the naked eye immediately point out that the TB is 58mm instead of the stock 66mm or that the headers are from an LS and not an R. I was just venting because everytime I work on my R I find something broken, missing or not original and its getting frustrating. Some of the things that the previous owner did were just plain stupid and rediculous. However, I think I'm getting through most of the thick stuff and I love my ITR to death. I appreciate your guy's support and understanding.

I did check the block stamp before I bought the car. I did not find out that the TB wasn't original until I measured the bore with a venier caliper and I didn't know that I had LS headers till the heat shield fiasco...The only thing that gave the TB away was that the intake was a tad too big for the TB.
