Default Problem with Engine

Hi Guys,

Need some assistance here. I haven't been driving my car very hard lately, meaning it hasn't seen the higher rpms. I took it up to the 8,000 rpm range today and something is definately wrong with my car.

I have hondata-4 for a year, AEM CAI, Fujistubo RMO1a, and Short Shifter. I use Mobil-1 Super Synthetic oil since 10k service(5w-30).

The problem is this, the power band is not smooth at all and the engine feels like it has 3-4 hesitations in between the 5-8k rpm range. I have to let me engine cool down and am going to check my oil. Something that I really never do unfortunately. I still have 2,500 km until my next service visit. I always take my car to the dealer for service. I currently have 64k on my car.

Never had a misshift, no engine lights are on, and nothing has lead me to believe I ever had a problem with the car.

Anyone have any suggestions. I will be taking the car into the dealership unless I can figure out what is going on

Not sure. This is my first honda and we went to check them at work and we don't have the proper tool to get them out.

If it is the spark plugs, would you stick with OEM honda or go with an aftermarket brand?

I killed my spark plugs in the 12k. there will be a hesitation, but if just swap them the car should return to it's peppy self.

This isn't a warranty thing?

Thanks for the help guys Why would the hesitation just be in vtec and not from 1 to 5k, nothing noticable in that driving?

Since yours only lastest 12k, what did you switch them with?

perhaps your spark plugs are loose or worn ... how is your idle? ... consistant or erratic?

Idle is consistent. Everything is a-okay normal except for high rpm hesitation. I think I will go pick up a torque wrench and the special spark plug wrench for the car and check out the plugs. I hear the oem ones are the best, I may run over the the deal first to have a back set and switch them up. Doesn't sound like it is a very hard thing to do.

A member on Clubrsx posted this service bulletin? What do you think? I am trying to locate some spark plugs to change them this weekend, but having no luck.

on top of the valve cover there should be a plastic cover... unbolt that and it leaves you to these 4 plastic covered connection areas. Unscrew that stuff and take it out and you will be able to access the plugs.

I've done that, I just need to go purchase a 5/8" spark plug wrench (5/8" extension).

Omg. I have the plugs out but they won't go back in without my 5/8" stuck to the end of the spark plug. The amount of force required to take it off is to much for the socket extension and it comes off instead of the 5/8" socket. Any thoughtful ideas?

I had the same thing happen. Duck Tape the extension onto the socket.

Long pair of needle nose pliers always worked best for me

When things get bad they get ugly.

So I am torquing down my last spark plug and I thought something was wierd, so I took it out again and low and behold, the thread broke apart from the spark plug so now all I have is this!

Well once you get the old threads out...(however you may do this) use some anti-seize on the new spark plug threads...will help in the future to prevent it happening again.

More than likely you had a dirty filter that was causing the problem, but now you have a much larger problem that may require the romoval of the head.

When you are unsure of something, STOP, get an expert before continuing on.

No.

The problem is fixed, it was the spark plugs. Once the plug was fixed, I called on an expert and he had the tools to do it right. End of story.
