vin number on motor question
i recently bought a 94 gsr. my crank shaft went and i started to take that motor apart and i started noticing that most of the parts on this car arent from a stock gsr. ie head is a type r head (pr3-3) flywheel is a p30. so im scared that this motor might be stolen so how can i check if the motor is actually legit. thanks for your help in advanced
VIN# should be right on the front of the motor. it's in plain sight. if you can't find the VIN on the block, then there's a chance it was removed. at any rate, it should be on the front of the block. good luck.
They didn't start putting the VIN on engines until about '97 or ?? What's on the front of the block is the engine serial #.
If the block is really from a '94 GSR the first digit of the serial # should be 1. Like B18C1 on the first line, & 1nnnnnnn on the second line.
edit:
I bet the cops or DMV only keep records on stolen VINs, not block serial#s. Call your friendly local police station... I bet they'll want to come over & look at it.
Maybe Honda themselves keep records of which engine was installed in which vehicle, but I've never heard of anyone actually getting that information.
