Default CRX speedometer Cable Stuck

Mine is stuck at the transmission. Boot is up, pin is out, cable won't budge. Actually I have already broke the cable from he other end trying to get it out. So I went to work on the tranny end with a pair of vice grips. That has only left me with a little stub left connected to the tranny. It's an 91 crx hf. Any ideas how to get this mother out?

Thanks

Did you remove the little clip from around the hole that the cable plugs into?

If the clip is out and is still won't budge. spray some pb blaster on it and let it soak.
If it still won't come out try using a propane torch

Soaking in PB now, as you can see, I'm just left with a stump.

It is stuck in there good. Good enough to break several times before comming out. A torch won't hurt anything inside the tranny or around it, will it?

Thanks

See that bolt? Take it out and replace the VSS.

VSS? I'm trying to look that up in my haynes manual. Can't find anything. Is it an easy replacement? If I remove that bolt will the whole assembly just slide out and can be replaced?

Cool, thanks. My manual said something about not removing that bolt. Anyway if I get that out, and get the cable stub out can that part be put back in. or is it nessessary to replace it?

Thanks again,

Damn - that thing is rusted in there!
If PB doesn't work then I would opt for a different cable drive gear. (It's not a VSS.)

Oh lets not nick pick. I know its a cable driven gear that drives the VSS in the cluster. Most people just refer to it as a VSS.

Alright, I've removed the bolt and plate, and that piece still won't budge. I've pryed, banged, twisted, and nothing. Time for the torch?

use the torch to heat it up, then use a punch lightly to get it wedged in there, then slowly pull it out....you might let it cool b4 pulling it out.......it will " stick " to the punch if it warms enough

The sleeve came out.

Cables is outta the way though, and it looks like I can just put the sleeve back and get a new cable. Any objections?

thats looking kind of rough I'd just go to the junker and get a new(to you) unit. But it may work. I don't remember that sleeve coming out on mine.

well that was the plan. to get a new unit, but the rest isn't budging. I seriously don't think I can get it off.

And no, nothing was squeeking. I'd like to get an si tranny, rather than reuse this hf tranny. But I havn't been able to find anything yet. I'm going from the hf motor to a d16y7. And I already know I want the new tranny.

Anyone have an idea how much they are approx, for a used si tranny. I just got a call I've been waiting for reguarding the price of a tranny in his posession. He says $300. I was thinking more like $100 or so. I just can't get it now if it's going to be that much. I'll have to wait to find one at the junkyard for $50.

thanks

Spray some of that pb **** again. Then take a flat head screw driver and tap counter-clockwise with a hammer. It should budge. You have to twist it counter-clockwise to remove. That's how i got me out.

Thanks, but if I'm going to reuse this tranny, it'll just be untill I find an si. It looks like it will work fine now that I got the cable out.

thanks again
