Default clunking in front suspension

ok so I did my springs and struts myself and im having some issues. I have done the springs and struts before on a friends integra, so this is not my first time. I made sure the springs were seated right as well when I put them on. My friend who owned my car before me also said he got a shitty camber kit and it has to be greased up cause it made noise with him as well. I noticed especially if im on the highway if i swerve back and forth pretty aggressivly I hear a clunk coming from the front suspension. I thought i twas front right but it sounds its just in front somewhere now. I also had to remove the front sway bar during my swap install. Anyone have any ideas what this clunking could be.

I am going to double check the torque specs on the LCA and the sway bar tomorrow. BUt i also noticed on the drivers side suspension when i push down after driving the car i hear a squeek/creek and im not sure if its the strut or spring. (H&R sports with brand new tokico illuminas) Anyone have anything else I should check where the hell this clunking is coming from.

Did you remove the axles? If so, how? if you just pulled on them till they came out then you ruined the CV joints / CV boot etc. That is the click you hear.

axles were pulled where i got the motor from. but my mechanic checked em out and he said they seemed fine. its not a click that i hear though its a clunk, and its loud only if i swerve hard.

damn, **** this.

I just checked, and double checked everything, retorqued everything to specs, pulled, tugged everything that I thought could be making the noise. Tightened the ingalls style camber kit where it connects to the engine back(my friend said that may be the problem, when he owned the car it was the problem) I take it out for a spin, its still clunking. WTF can it be.

Im using white lithium grease on everythign tomorrow maybe its a part thats binding up or something. I also noticed some of the ball joints are cracked, or dont seem to filled iwth grease, maybe thats a problem.

Anyone else have any suggjestions what to check or what could be loose.

I had a similiar problem, I had a "clunk" sound everytime I downshift, start from a dead stop and what not. The sound got progressively louder and more frequent as time went by. I FIRST noticed the sound after a clutch install. I ended up

1. Finding out my top motor mount to the actual motor was messed up, a missing bolt, a snapped bolt and 1 loosed bolt holding the mount to the motor behind the timing belt cover. Had the helicoils removed and bolts retapped, and bolted back down.... CLUNK SOUND STILL THERE!

2. Swapped BOTH driver and passenger axles to new REBUILT AXLES.... CLUNK SOUND STILL THERE!

3. Bought ES motor mounts inserts for the 3 torque mounts. Upon install the front 2 inserts I noticed that BOTH mounts were totally broken. Left the broken rubber stock mounts in place and just put in the inserts anyway... since it would be converting them to solid mounts... I see no point to buy new rubber mounts. AFTER that the CLUNK sound WAS GONE!

Just worth looking into, I had no issues that come to mind on the highway making sounds... mostly stop and go was most noticable.

i had the same problem with my 96 ls. i had the cheap camber kit on it and i thought it was my lower ball joints, so i replaced them and it was still there. after replacing everything but the axles i bought the nice skunk 2 upper control arms and installed those and used the factory non adjustable camber piece it was gone, so it was my cheap ebay camber kit..... and by the way i recomend those uca's...they are great

ok I will recheck and retorque all the motor mounts since I did put new ones in.

Im also taking it to a mechanic to put it on a lift, pull around and see what exactly the noise is. My friend said it was the camber kit that made the noise, but everything seems tight on it and I just tightened everything as well

what kinda of suspension? I have some friends who have TEIN on other cars and they are LOUD... they make clunking noises and you hear gas moving inside them ALL the time. Sounds kinda cool, except when you want your car to be quiet. But for those TEINs, its perfectly normal for it to make those sounds... I think the clunking in those TEINs has to do with their upper mount.

well I got the lithium grease for al lthe bushings all lined up, just waitin for a sunny day so I can grease em up. As for the camber kit hopefully my friend has the stock pieces that go in place of the camber kit. If I cant figure out the problem Im putting those on to see if it goes away.

This kit isnt even the ingalls one, its the "ingalls style" from ebay, so I dont doubt this is causing the problem.

i just bought a 01 gs and as soon as i got it home it started clunking in the front when i was almost at a complete stop. it ended up being something internally with the axles AND a warped rotor. warranty .

i think its the camber kit still, because the nuts may be tight that hold it in place but the bolt that comes out of the camber kit works itself loose and will eventually break....found that out while retightening my kit......hope you can under stand what im trying to explain

yea i actually posted a question about that.

well im puttin the stock pieces on and gettign rid of the ingalls style camber kit for now. But when Im reinstalling the stock pieces hwo tight do I make them. I made them snug, so I can move them if I push pretty hard to guide them into the hole in the engine bay, and since the upper arm does travel, I figured just snug so it can move would be best. can anyone confirm how tight these should be made.(Im talking about where the stock pieces connect to the upper control arm)

The torque specs you mean? Call up a dealer ship or look at a helms. Its not the battery bouncing around is it?

POS camber kit. The alignment bolt came loose, so it was sliding back and forth.

Ok so it was the loose adjustment on yours...mine is making the clicking noise and its not that. I think it may be sliding loosely between (left and right) the a-arm connection. Is that what happen to everyone else's??

Yeah i got one of those cheapo dropzone kits too

Im gonna try to stuff some washers in there to keep it from sliding around. We'll see

my cheap camber kit is all wack. On the passenger side, the bushing that connects to the A arm was loose sliding in and out 2 milimeters.

on the drivers side on one camber kit the bushing was loose about 4-5 millimeters sliding in and out and the adjustment bolt came totally loose providing about an inch of movement.

But quik if your interested and one of your camber kit adjustment pieces is messed up PM me, or AIM - blurrr88 ill sell you a good one. Actually 2 out of the set were still good.

i think we came to a conclusion on tis topic......dropzone camber kits are junk.....thats what mine was. there was too much freeplay inside the a arms. but i will say the skunk 2 kit is awesome...i love it

Well, not being the one to give up on it I bought some washers from napa

They are some huge 3/4 ones to place between the mounting points. So far they working. No matter what, i still find it kinda hard to justify the Skunk2 cost.

I'll keep ya updated on how it holds up

Ok so the washers didnt work for more than a day. Well, at least I took a shot at it. Anywho, i went on the dropzonesuspension.com website and found out that they have a lifetime warranty.
This could be interesting. In the meantime i think i might put back in the OEM parts and get it aligned for free (Lifetime alignment pakages haha)

I agree it is hard to justify the price on the skunk2 pieces but i was tired of messing around with the junk kits and i said to hell with it and bought it. And so far i have no regrets.......yet
