Radius Rod Break?
I was driving done I85 and went to downshift and all of a sudden I was losing steering wheel control. I tried to apply the brakes and I was hearing metal to metal contact. I was able to pull over to the side of the road, thinking maybe my brake calipers bolt had broke since I had recently changed the pads. But, when i looked under the car the right radius rod had broke in half. I had heard a knock early everytime I changed gears, but like stated earlier thought it was a brake problem. What would make it just snap in half like that? If I had the money I would jump on a jimfab bar right quick. But, I want to know is there anything that would of made this rapid wear occur? 91 dx hatch, jdm d15b, energy suspension motor mount inserts.

"This just happened after I crashed into the back of a semi while I was doing 100 mph and I ended up flipping the car 3 times into a ditch on the side of the road. Luckily I landed on my wheels and drove away from it all. That's when the radius rod snapped. I don't understand it?!?!?!"

proof that hondas are very reliable. hehe
radius rods are stroung as ****.
I cut on at the wrecking yard one day.
Took about 10 min and 2 good *** blades with sawzall.
I saw a hatch that got wrapped around a pole.
It takes some MAJOR stress to break one of those.

no, the car hasn't been in any accidents since I've owned, it's been in one by the original owner according to the carfax, but I've had it for over a year and a half now.

Maybe it was overtorqued.

I looked in the manual but didn't see torque specs for the bolts. I finished putting the new one on, and just made sure it was tight but not too tight.

I have a custom front crossmember with custom radius rods put on by the previous owner. One time the driver side radius rod snapped at the weld and the wheel tucked into the wheel well and the car went sideways, me traveling at about 70mph I was scared as **** but luckily I steered the car straight and very carefully drove it home and put some better weld's on.
something to look out for if you have custom suspension piece's done by someone else.

yeah I was doing upwards of 80 when it happened to me. I was cocky enough to drive it home, just called roadside assistance. If I knew I could drive it home I wouldn't of waited for an hour in the car in 90 degree weather.
