I purchased a 93 del sol frame from the "Swap Shop (justin and teddy" here in dallas a couple months ago. The owner said the title is on the way cause they did a mechanical lien on the previous owner fo the car. So they gave me a reciept stating that it's a clean title and I will get the title in 30 days. I did check carfax and the car has clean title and nver been wrecked so I decided to pick it up and paid him. 30 days gone by and they still haven't had my title, so I decided to visit them. They told me that it's still on the way and the lady working for them is still working on it. So I gave them another 10 days. 10 days passed and still no title. When I returned there to find out what's going on. Justin (parner) told me the owner (Teddy) was in jail and he was the one taking car of my title. Justin told me that he will try to take care of it and tell me to return tomorrow. I ruturned the next day finding that the shop was closed. Now there's no way to get in contract with him and I'm stuck with a car with no title.
Is there anytihng I can do to get a title or my money back? should I take them to court? ect..?

Damn. I just read on here about another scam where the shop owner went to jail and the shop closed. Sounds like the same place. I'll try to find the thread for you.

go to the dmv and explain your situation.

 

Dude become friends with someone at a DMV office or if you know someone who works for a big honda dealership, have them request a title, it would be an original, or clean title, as long as the VIN is clear, you should be fine

 

If the cops haven't taken the car yet, can I see the VIN#.

Why would the cop take my car? It's not stolen or anything. I have the reciept.

 

why dont u call the cops. you're not supposed to sell cars without titles.

 

Maybe I should..but what if they just take my car? I'll be loosing my money..I'm pretty sure there's ways to make the title.

 

yeah, find out who it was last titled under , and say u lost the title, retitle it in his name. then title it again in ur name.

 

Watch out i heard of a scam That when they say they are goin to send you the title they dont and when they find you or the car they steal it back. But you have a recipet so that probably wont happen.

 

go to the dmv and ask to have a duplicate title printed up. you have the reciept and that is your proof that the car was sold to you. they will print up the duplicate with the last owners name or lien holder and then you use that to put it in your name.
and the can check the vin# and tell you if anything is wrong as far as it being stolen. some dmv systems have a "stolen, totalled etc" alert on their computers. so see what they say.

and worse case , you will have to get a another vin# for the car if the car shows up not stolen or the such. ask them as to this other issue. let us know what you do.

 

theres legal ways of doing it but its not going to take 30 days. took 7 months for me to get the title for my crx. I got thru my shop. mechanics lien.

 

Thankx for all the help guys. I'm still trying to find out who's the last owner is. It would be much easy if I know who it is. I'll be trying the DMV again and hope they found out who it is.

 

use a title service. thats what I did. they charged me 315.

I would do this only... if I was you.

I don't think the DMV will believe your story, because I'm sure they get scammers all the time.

 

i just looked this up on the carfax for you...looks like a clean title.
