Default Help, I found a strange wire under the dash...

(posted in tech to no avail)

I was removing the old alarm (which was constantly draining the system, even though it didn't work properly) and I decided to clean up all the wiring. So under the dash was a white wire (looks about 10 gauge) and it had a small wire attached to it and the other end of the small wire was attached to the wiring harness on the back of the cd player.

Now I only use this wiring harness because my cd player does not have any other way to attach the remote wire from the amps. But the wire mentioned is not part of the remote wire, there are 2 wires connected to the harness, the remote wire, and the aforementioned small mystery wire, here are some pics, see the white wire in the top left corner? And on the harness there are the 2 wires, 1 (the blue one) is the remote wire, the other (yellow) is the mystery wire...

Do I need it? What does it do?

That is some ugly wireing, the small white wire with green tracer looks like its plugged into a relay and I think I can see the other end just off to the right, reconnect them, solder and shrink tube, not sure what relay is for, but do know your HU or amp remote wires should not be connected there. the other larger white wire on the left, Im also not sure and I cant see the other end,but it should also be reconnected , and no wireing from HU or amp wired to it. also get rid of all the Ttaps.

All the wireing you need for the HU is at the OEM radio harness, and if I understand you, the HU has no amp trigger, if so, then just use the acc. output
term. on fuse box, and get a new adpt. harness to plug into OEM radio harness plug, I can see it has all the wires cut off it except acc. and ground.

hope this helps. 94

Thanks, I already fixed all those wires that were cut, I was busy cleaning up all the wiring, and did all the soldering, shrink wrapping, etc.

I was just curious to see what that one wire did, as it was not the remote wire for the amps...but it was still connected to that white wire (which I cut).

All the ones that were cut were not needed, as they were just taped up at the ends and my stereo worked fine before, I am only doing this because the alarm was all messed up and I wanted it out of there. Its not 100% cleaner under there. I fixed all the connections and made sure they were good, before my amps were reading a little low at idle, maybe now they will be better, if not, then I'll check the grounds.

So were does your HU get its onswitched power from if its not getting it from the cut yellow wire of the harness adpt. [in 3rd pix]? 94

Oh, good point. Well what about the RCA cables? Since they are attached to the amps and the battery is attached to the amps...

Im pretty shure that the RCAs shouldnt be able to power your headunit and should be dioded within the headunit to prevent feedback.

The only large guage white wire that I've seen in my car went to the ignition switch (main power supply), abs pump power, and the power wires to both fuse boxes.

If you have a DMM check what it shows with the ignition switch in all positions.

no no no in pix 3 you can see the adpt. plug, plugged into the oem radio harness, you have the red, acc. or switched power hooked up to adpt.,and you have the black, ground, hooked up to adpt., but the yellow unswitched power wire on adpt. has been cut off, so were have you hooked up the ,[yellow or orange depending on deck] unswitched power for the deck that is sitting on the floor in pix 3 , I see some yellow wire with a foot or so of what looks like ground wire hooked up with, tisk tisk , amp type tap connecters and that gos to a "wad" and I can see what looks like a blue wire or 2 running behind consol from "wad". 94
