Lately I've noticed a strange rattle/knock sound comming from the left rear corner on my '01 Integra GSR. I've taken the wheel off and banged on just about everything to try and reproduce the sound, but no luck. Seems to happen over rough road conditions/bumps and ruts. Right side has started to do it too now. I have a comptech swaybar and thought that the endlinks might be going bad. I replaced the left rear but didn't do anything. Only other suspension mod is Ebiach Prokit springs (which have sagged noticablly and been on the car a little over 2 years). Car still handles like it used to/should. Any ideas?
I posted here because I figure that there are plenty of guys here that are quite intimate with the rear suspension on hondas.
Thanks

Is it a rattle or banging of some sort?
Might just be that the spring is "loose" in some instances and rattles/bangs when the rear suspension is in a "droop" (rear spring/suspension) in the air and unrestrained, situation.
BTW, this is one of the reasons to go with a GC or other "coilover/sleeved" type suspension.

it's more like a rattle than anything else. I first I thought something was rolling around with the spare tire. A GC and koni setup is definatly in the near future.
mabey this is not the case, but i had a rear rattle and it was driving me crazy for about 3 months.........then on a 5 hours trip to a SOLO event my GF pointed out that the bumper was flapping a bit in the wind.....turns there had been some rust in the back and the right forward attachemtn of the bumper came loose.......which just needed a new screw to fix.......and the rattle stopped.
i have a similar noise, but have not tried to diagnose the problem though.. i'd be very curious to find out what yours ends up being from..
sounds to me like a spring has become unseated.
your struts could be blown or on their way out and dont rebound fast enough causing the spring to unseat and rattle.
it could also be the exhaust thing, but you would have noticed that long ago.
edit: just thought of this,im not sure whether your running the comptech tiebar and braces but if you aren't the sound could be the brackets rattling around from a fresh tear in the subframe or at least the brackets getting loose and ready to tear.

nah it's not the exhaust. I've had a few exhaust rattles in my time, definatly not that. Shocks not leaking and feels normal driving and when pushing on the car from the outside. I am leaning towards the spring/shock making the noise, but won't be able to tell for sure untill I can change them out.

I have had that problem several times. Replace both endlinks and get the revised mounting kit. Comptech designed the original wrong and the endlinks start making noise after a few months. Joe said he would get me free endlinks, but could not comp. the new mounting kit.
From Comptech
We've released a bracket upgrade kit (#141-005) which sells for $59.00.
It will include new brackets for the lower part of the endlink that mounts
to the lower control arm, bolts, nuts, and spacers. End links are sold
separately (#141-110) $21.00 each. Let me know if you need this upgrade.
Thanks.

hmmm that might make sense. I originally installed the swaybar in the softest setting, but the noise started after I put the swaybar on it's middle setting. That setting puts the endlinks at a different mounting orentation than the softest settings. Thanks, MattG, I'm going to have to look into that.

i haven't tried that yet.. i'd be surprised if that were it though, because it just kinda started one day and only is audible under load on that corner or if going over a bump..

I used to have the same problem when I had my H&R Sports/KYB AGX. It rattled over bumps and rough road. It was only in the rear. Then I put on my Tein RE and it went away. We figured out the last day that it was the springs rattling on the perches.
