Which Transmission for ALL MOTOR b18c1 crx?
ok its time to get a new tranny. I going to go hydro but i cant decide which tranny i want. I currently have a y1 and i like that it is quick off the line and it pulls hard through 3rd gear. 4th and 5th pull but significantly less than 1-3. any ways. I cant decide between a del sol/ Civic Si tranny or a GSR tranny. i am going to put a quaife or kaaz LSD in which ever i buy. SO LETS HEAR SOME OPINIONS ON WHICH ONE YOU LIKE!!!
yeah i just bought a 99-00 Civic Si tranny b/c its gear the same as a USDM ITR. I plan on throwin a QUAIFE/Kaaz LSD, Jun 8lb flywheel and an upgrade clutch....(dunno what level) but first i need the hasport efb hydro kit for a CRX w/ b18c
theres my ups but its gonna take a while.,....

sorry
theres a few things to consider.
i went from a Y1 to my current tranny and theres 2 very different schools of thought onwhat you could have/want
is this a race only car? what kinda top speeds do you want?
does it ever see a freeway for any amount of time
i think i would stick with the Y1 to stay cheap.
u want somtehing fast get a Ys1 and a 4.7 or 4.9 FD
the stock lsd is weak, i had an aftermarket in my Y1 and it was TEN TIMES better in the corners. i put a stock itr lsd and im really not happy with it. quaife and stock itr are the same style (helical) so the act the same in a corner, and both last forever.
personally if i were to get another diff it would be a KAAZ or ATS
helical dif are only good for peoploe who dont wnna service them.
the gearing on the YS1 is very short. im at 4000rpm at 60mph with my 4.7 FD! definatly not for the freeway, but excellent acceleration. the car tops out about 130mph in 5th at 8000rpm
lemme say ive driven a car with the hydro conversion and i really would rather have the cable trans due to the pedal feel, which is rather dull and vague
good luck in your choice

I hear ya on the acceleration, if it dosent ever see a highway shorter gears are much better. I had a jdm j1, and it was nice, but now that I have a gsr, let me tell you, its way better (Daily driver). I like the hasport conversion... it feels great to me, hardly a difference in feel. Ryan
