Default trippin temp gauge Question

Well my temp gauge will periodically jump to max hot, and then come back down to norm after 30sec for no apparent reason. I have a stong cooling system and know its not overheating.. So I went to a honda dealer and get a BRAND NEW temp gaugewire plug thing cause my old one had frayed wires, but this only helped some, as it still jumps up and down sometimes, even when its cold.
Anyone else have this problem?
thanx

Probably air trapped in the system. I've had the same problem. Over time my upper radiator hose collapsed under vacuum pressure.

If this is the case would you recomend just un-hooking a hose for a few hours to release some pressure or something? Thanks for the response

LMAO my car does this too, EXACT same symptoms.

Next time this happens smack the top of the cluster cover. that usually bumps mine back to normal, until i hit a bump on the road and boom up she goes again.

I simply screwed the cap off the radiator, and started the engine.

Cold engine ofcourse...you don't want boiling hot coolant flying all over the place.

There's probably a more fancy way to do this in tha manual...but this worked for me.

no it's not a problem with the gauge. I mean It's normal and then it shoots right to hot, like, instant, not slowly or gradually, like a switch almost. as quick as a oil PSI gauge when you punch it in neutral from idle.

That's because air gets hotter then coolant. So if a patch of hoi air hits the sensor...voila...temp shoots up.

I know that when the gauge gets a clean ground it spikes hot. I think the temp gauge in the cluster is toast. :/ anyone sellin a cheap 88-89 cluster?

If it is caused by air bubbles in your coolant line,, just be sure to bleed the system when you put new coolant in. Air bubbles will kill an engine faster than Vin Diesel.

ok, it's DEFINATELY NOT air bubbles.

If i flick the cluster it will cause the guage to go to normal sometimes. so definately NOT a coolant problem.

i think you should try just installing a new cluster like you said before. if it fixes the problem then you know you were right

EVERY TIME you put new coolant or water or water wetter into your cooling system, let it run for a few minute, then use the bleeder on the front water neck to remoove water.

Follow Helm manual for further information.

EF cooling system tend to keep air into circulation, so bleed a couple time.

hope this help
