Default Planning multiple amps...max power draw in a Civic?

I'm planning to add to the stereo in my Civic...it currently has 2 10's in the trunk, but I going to be building a custom box to house 4 10's and to run off of either two medium sized two channel amps with each sub getting its own channel, or one big two channel amp with two subs sharing a channel (It'll be in the 600-800watt range). My question is if any one knows what the max power draw is, in amperage, that can be placed on the '99-00 Civic LX electrical system without draining the battery? The car currently has an Optima Yellowtop battery, no caps. Thanx for your help guys. ---D.

You should have a 70 amp alternator. I have had a 1600 watt RMS (Phoenix Gold) system in my '02 (80 amp alternator) for more than a year now with no problems. I have spent the necessary $ on wiring the car properly though. You should be fine with 800 watts if you run 4 gauge wire to the amps, reinforce the ground wire from the battery to the chassis and I would recommend at least a 1 farad capacitor.
