Default 85 Civic problems

well a friend of mine just got an 85 Civic for free.... well, it's a daily driver. not really concerned with how it looks or whatever, but as long as it gets to Point A to B.

just recently, he's been tryin to get this car to pass smog, but it's got a few problems.

1) it overheats. (changed the thermostat. which kinda fixed the problem. but still running warm.)

2) there's a strange white grease residue inside the engine when we remove the oil cap. (wtf?)

3) burns white smoke when u first turn it on. then runs blue smoke once in a while.

anyone out there got some suggestions?

another friend of mine, was thinking it might be a blown head gasket. but we're not too sure about it. any other suggestions?

Needs a new headgasket.

If you can do the labor yourself then its worth it.

Honestly you people need to stop hating on the 84-87 Civic/CRX's.
