RSX Type R confirmed for US
Just reading the new Road and track and in the "Fast Frugal Fun" article they quote after complaining about the RSX's poor braking that "in its defense, Acura has confirmed there will be a lighter, more powerful (220 HP) RSX Type R with even more dedicated hardware in a year or so." Hope this hasnt already been posted, sorry if it has.
To me it was obvious. Honda has to have something to compete against new upcoming performance cars from Mitsubishi and Subaru. But I think the RSX-R will fall short and not be able to match performance wise against the other cars. Me, I'm torn between the RSX-R and the STi. It will be very interesting in a couple of years...

actually the breaking on the RSX-S is pretty good, but if you read any sport compact car, or any other magazine that did a test on it , it will explain how the stock tires, which are michellen, i think thats how u spell it, oh well, are real crappy. they suck. i changed mine already on my rsx-s. those factory tires have no grip to them, thats why the breaking was not good. unlike the type-r or s2000 which came with bridgestone potenza's, the type-s got poor michellen's. i have upgraded to falken aziens, which are real good.

im supposed to get a rsx type-s this march, but now i am skeptical because of all the new cars coming out, but i deff need a car by march. so i am kinda stuck in a rut. what do u think i should do
the RSX-R and the Sti are both very good cars. they will have mad potential. and they will both be here in 2003 around the same time. the lancer turbo will be here in 2004. but back to the RSX-R and STi, both of these cars will be fast, but it all depends on what u like. the RSX-S will be lighter. it will weight in at 2600 without ac, and 2650 with ac. it will have the 220 hp and 161 touqrue, i think. not to sure on the tourque. and by the time the RSX-R hits the stated, there should be a good following to it, performance wise. but the one thing thats gonna matter is price. i have heard that the STi might run as high as 36,ooo. and the RSX-R might run 28,ooo. but these are just rumors that my friends at the dealser told me. so either car will be a good investment.
get the RSX-S, its a good car. there is mad performance parts coming out in dec. for it. everything from exhaust to full bodykits. and u can also get the jdm parts for it. off of a rsx-r. plus, u will love that 6 speed.
Same here. Anyone know why Acura hasn't announced anything to this day? How far back did Acura announce the 1997 Type R?
Please get an RSX-type S that is if you like refinement and performance at the same time. It beats the pants of Celica GTS and Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (I test drove all 3 intimately before i bought RSX-S) in those areas as well as styling, IMHO. Plus, it just feels more like a "driver's" car.
Poor braking... yes! Compare to what is out there! I've traded my stock tires too for some Kumho Ecsta 712... Shitty too! I did some reading and people were saying how cheap/good they are! That's bull! They are cheap, but as good as the stock michelin, no more! They will be up for sale next year!
But if you want to upgrade the breaking, get some pads! I have Porterfield R4-S on my RSX now and the breaking is way better!

still waiting for acura's word. Also on a review of the RSX I read that the breaks on the rsx-s were much better (stock vs stock) than the GS-R thats with the same crappy tires and that break fade was totally gone in the new car!?!?

STI is 6-speed too though...
Honestly, the only reason for the delay is because of emission. I really doubt we can get the 220 HP R. Many cars fail to pass emission when coming to North America. The previous M3 is another example. Same for WRX, WHY WHY WHY we have to wait 10 years for the Turbo charged WRX, and when it comes here, F, only 225 vs. JDM's 280hp.
I hope that those cars will pass....

Bah, I don't think it's emissions, the engine in the RSX-R is based on the F20C in the S2000 and the S2000 is an LEV (or is it ULEV?). And we all know the S2000 makes 20 more hp. It could be crash testing because the RSX-R may have a slightly lower ride height.
Or it simply could be a marketing thing to build a following for the regular RSX's before they throw down the gauntlet with the R. One way to build hype is to give people a good taste, then tell them something better's coming...

I dont think its emissions either I think they are holding out on us. like holding candy just out of reach from a babby so that once we finally get it it taste that much better!
