Tranny noise with or without clutch engaged.
Well I recently had a dx tranny put in my 90 si and the idiot who changed it filled it with gear oil. I've since drained and refilled it with honda stuff but its making some weird noises that I'm not too sure about. The tranny shifts perfectly no grinds but its making a growling noise during 1st gear acceleration and the same noise during deceleration in 1st -3rd. I'm more concerned with the fact that it makes more noise when I push in the pedal what does this mean. The car is a 1990 civic hatch with the usual bolt-ons and a fairly new stock clutch. What effects would the gear oil have on my tranny It drove about 10 minutes before I heard the noise and its been doing the same ever since.
I think that may be the problem He probably used the old one from the tranny I brought in. Can I drive it for a few weeks like this, it doesn't seem to affect driveability and I'm only driving it about 100 miles a week. Thanks for your reply
Mine Makes the Same noises And i drive it all the time. When i Did my Engine swap i replaced the clutch, the pilot bearing, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Took it for a drive and it still does it. Personally i think its my Synchros its not big deal realy.,It wont really do much even if they go bad. It will only pop the Car out of gear so basically youll have to hold it in gear. But ive beat my 4 speed STD tranny for like 2 years now and never had a problem besides the noise.
