Default car running to warm

hello everyone, my car is running warm as mentioned above. the weird thing is that it will idle all day long with no trouble. everything has been replaced (all hoses, thermo, rad cap etc.) but when i drive the car after approximately fifty yards it runs just below the red mark on factory coolant temp gauge. stop driving cools right of in about two to three mins. F.Y.I. i drive a 91 dx converted to mpfi from 89 ex recently converted to d16z6 from a 93 si. remained obd-o everthing wired properly no codes revs fine drives fine except for the for mentioned problem. i have the stock radiator and i think its plenty big cuase the car came with a/c that i took out since my windows roll down fine but any way. (radiator is new also) i did hear that i need to upgrade to a radiator from a v-tec car since they run warmer in genaral. any one know if that is true? final note the motor does have an after market cam and spoon header, though i don't have specs on cam. any advice from the tech users greatly appriciated. thank you (any one have some links to radiator sites) system has been bled properly

If the gauge goes to just below the red mark but cools of in a couple mins it sounds like your gauge/sensor is off. Grab an aftermarket coolant temp sensor/gauge and hook it up and see what readings you get. I'd be willing to bet your car runs fine esp with all the stuff you replaced and with how quick it cools off.

can you hook the after market gauge to the factory sendindg unit on the engine without harming the gauge? is there different voltage or what ever might be between the different sending units?
