Got a question for all the do-it-yourselfer's...

Is the Helm's Service manual a good investment? How comprehensive is the book in helping you out with repairs/replacements? I would like to get it...but I just wanna get a better feel for what the book is about. I've seen those Hayes books but I wanna get something even more detailed. Thanks for any responses!

 

yes helms is worth it. The acura dealer even uses them...

Checked out the http://www.helminc.com website and am confused on which manual to get. I have a 2001 ITR. Since I have a Type R, should I be getting the 1997 Integra Shop Manual Supplement AND the 1997 Integra Type R Service Manual Supplement (both listed below from their website) or should I be getting the 1998 Integra Service Manual AND the 2001 Integra 3 and 4 Door Service Manual Supplement?

Sorry if this is way too complicated. Just that there are so many combinations to make. What do you all have?

The manual is more comprehensive than most of us will probably ever need it to be...

The only ITR supplement is for the '97 ITR, but there are Integra supplements (NOT ITR supplements) for 2000 and 2001.

Each manual normally covers all Integra models for that model year.

The reason they published an ITR supplement for the '97 is that the ITR came out partway through the '97 Integra model year, after the '96-97 Integra service manual had been published without information for the Type R.

In some years, such as 2000 and 2001, the car is similar enough to the previous year that they only publish a supplement instead of a complete service manual. For example, if your ITR is a 2001, you need the '98 service manual, and then there is a 2001 supplement that covers all changes since '98 (for all Integra models including the ITR).

To summarize:

For a '97 ITR, you need the '96-97 Integra service manual, and the '97 ITR supplement (items 61ST702 and 61ST703).

For a '98 ITR, you need the '98 Integra service manual (item 61ST705).

For an '00 ITR, you need the '98 Integra service manual and the '00 Integra service manual supplement (items 61ST705 and 61ST707).

For an '01 ITR, you need the '98 Integra service manual and the '01 Integra service manual supplement (items 61ST705 and 61ST708).

Listen to Jason and nsxtasy. That's what you need for your car. Buy it even though it's expensive. Best R investment you can make for $100. Don't even mess with those other manuals.

Helms + H-T = ITR total fixability.

you can find free copies of civic/integra/prelude helms manuals online, from torrents...

I know for sure hondahookup.com had them on their databases for DL, but I haven't been on the site in forever

Although, I wonder if the Helms ITR Supplement is going for as much as some out-of-production Mugen parts are nowadays.
