Need your choice on which of these two S2000s you would buy.
What would you do? I have been trying to decide if I want to go with an MY03 w/ 9k miles for $24,400 I have been trying to get or a MY00 with 32k on it for $19,995. I can't decide if I want to spend more and get an S with warranty and few miles, or have a lower monthly payment and have more money to spend on goodies for the S.
'03, no doubt.
-Plastic window sucks. Upgrading that alone will cost a couple thousand.
-New ECU, although this is not a deal breaker.
-New oil jet bolt (pain in the *** to change)
-Better interior: the extra speaker and different shades in panel as well as the covered center console make a noticeable difference
The "goodies" are overrated. Just focus on getting some quality wheels, tires and lower it. Then build from there. It ain't a race.
-Resale: Anyone who's going to be looking at S2000s in the future will gripe about the plastic window. Get the glass window from factory and you have no worries. I know if I was a buyer there's no way in hell I'd pick an '01 over an '02 just because it's a couple of grand less.
Good luck,

Yah, I really want all the little factory upgrades too, the glass rear window is a biggie. I can replace it with glass for around $900, but what a pain. I would really like to have a lower payment as well. I need to sell my 92 Si and B18c so I have more money to put down. Oh I know it ain't rice, the S will stay fresh and clean.

why not look into the 2002?? the price range is probably in between the 00' and 03'
the 2002 also have glass window, new oil jets bolts (check the vin to make sure the 02' have upgraded oil jets bolts, the begining of the 02' still have the old oil jet bolts), nice round tweeter, leather cover center console, has a clock in the radio.

Sorry to be a noob. Could someone explain to me the problem with MY00's Oil Jet Bolts? That sounds like the only thing I care about in those reasons. Also - what is different about the MY03 ECU?

The MY00 and some MY01s had a problem with the banjo bolts not flowing enough oil to feed the jets. From what I hear, this caused some problems mainly in the number four cylinder. What you have to do is replace the banjo bolts with newer model year bolts that flow better than the old ones. Changing them out is extremely easy. These banjo bolts and oil jets are similar to the ones you would find in a B18C1 or C5 motor. They are not the same, but they look similar and are just as easy to change.

i am gettin 00 cuz of the black/ red black int and also 00 will hold more value if the S is going to stop being produced, first year a car was produced is always worth more when it has stopped production
true, but that takes time.
if production stops in 05, even in 2010 the MY00 will still probably be worth the least. Do I think the S will be a classic? with its acclaim and low production, it is more likely than anything else in the price range.

I would go with the 03 as well... I own an 01 Black/Red and the features aren't that much different, although I wish I had the glass rear window! But 2 years makes a big difference! Although I think that you can get a much better deal on both!

That's the dumbest S2000 comment I've heard in a while.
You seriously think people will pay more for a shittier top, shittier interior, ******* clutch cuz it's an '00 model? hahahahahha
it's not going to be a classic for a long *** time fellas.

i never mentioned classic, and its an opinion i did not say it was a law or something. who really cares about the top if you are gonna get a hardtop, who cares about the clutch if u have ACT clutch, and personaly i like the mix in 00 better that 02. i dont like the red dash its too much red. really can you say someones opinion is wrong? no i may not agree with you , but if everybody did it would be boring as hell. in the end no hate here, so why you hating?

I'd get the 00 model because the previous owner(s) absorbed the biggest depreciation hit already. The other 03 model that you are looking at will continue to depreciate at a rate faster than the 00. i.e. You will loose less money at resale time with the 00 than with the 03.
Additionally, if you are planning on autocrossing the car, the 00-01 models are slightly more desirable for the B Stock class than 02-03. The 00-01s had the most desirable suspension settings for autoX. Their spings are stiffer and shock valving is firmer. And the 00-01 models are lighter as well. The 00 model in particular is the lightest of all the years by a few lbs.

they are easy to swap for someone that has pulled an oil pan off before but I still have to admit doing the #1 cylinder is a pita b/c of the oil pump assembly in the way and due to the fine threads in the bolts, caution is needed to avoid cross threading and overtorqueing.

I was in a similar situation last year. But I was looking at getting a used 00-02 versus new 03. I ended up getting the 03. My friend also had the 01, but ended up trading it in for an 04. He couldn't stand the plastic window...

agreed!!!
i have a MY02 and it was used. i got the extended warranty and got exactly the color and int. combo i wanted. don't just jump into anything till you're sure.

Well here's the update. I went and drove the MY00 and was very disappointed. The car was a lease return and it had been driven hard!!! My friend and I drove for over 12 hours round trip to look at it too.
Oh well, the MY03 is in the works so we shall see. Thanks for everyone’s votes.

Vapor - was there a recall or manufacturer free-fix or anything like that for these oil jet bolts? I've pulled an Oil pan on my Integra before - but never on the s2k...and id prefer not mess the car up. If it is similar, I will do the oil jet bolts myself. If not - I will have the dealer do it. How many bolts do I need? How much are they? And what kind of dealer cost am I looking to do it?
Thanks for the help guys.

no service bulletin here in the states, but there was one in Europe. Don't ask me why we didn't get it since we virtually got the same cars but it seems that only european roads will promote oil lubriction problems for s2000's while in the states we don't have that problem. Anyways, I found out through my dealer that the part # for the bolts was updated, you can no longer buy the older bolts. If you've pulled the pan on your teg, you should be able to do it on the s2k. The main difference is that the s2k uses a liquid gasket instead of a rubber one. You'll need to get some special honda oil pan gasket in a can (forgot the name) to use for the gasket. Don't use cheap hondabond alternative or even hondabond since the oil pan gasket requires the more expensive and better stuff.
You'll need four bolts, as there is one per cylinder. Your dealer can do it but I'd be hesitant to have them perform this job unless they've done it before.

Would you say this fix is an absolute necessity?
I assume so - seeing as Ill be road racing in the future as well.
