starter trouble?
my friends car won't start. he has a 95 civic. We bought a new battery and that didn't solve the problem. All the electronics work, and everything. it's just when you turn the key nothing happens. yesterday we tried to jump the car, and it was trying to crank. We must have done it too much because now that doesn't even happen. All we hear is a slight humming noise.
sp is this a bad starter? how much does one cost? I hear a rebuilt one is around $100. how much would labor be if it's taken to a decent shop? also while he's doing that, he want's to switch the alternator. how much does one of those cost? thanks

yes, I do remember seeing a loose black wire in the engine bay, I don't remember where it lead to though. where would I connect it to? the engine or chassis?
on that last question, trace the wire back to where it comes from if it is a ground wire and is hooked to the motor ground it to the frame. if it is just connect to the frame then find its correct spot. if it isn't either of those that might be your problem, find out what it is.
another question. if a car has a turbo timer, that is connected into the ignition system right? what if it was removed and the stock harnesses weren't plugged back in, then the car wouldn't also start. right?
