Default Drop the tank on a hatch?

Hey guys, ive always been told and read that when installing a new fuel pump on a EF hatch you dont have to drop the tank like on a CRX. Now someone is trying to tell me you do, but i pull up my back seat and see the cover to my fuel pump. Who's right?

no, you don't always have to drop the tank. I dropped mine out the first time to install my stealth TT fuel pump, but I didn't swap the "fuel pick-up tube", so I ran outta gas at like 3/8 tank.

Well... Its a bitch, is I took a short cut the second time, hehehe.

Not recommended, although I've seen no ill effects and it took me about 1/2 the time of dropping the tank.

i had to drop the tank. that silver plate under the seat is the float for the fuel guage not the fuel pump. the pump is on the top of the drivers side of the tank. it's really not that hard but you'll need an extra hand and be careful about sparks.

Can anyone else vouch for either side? Ever since i bought a hatch I have heard hatch owners giving CRX owners a hard time because they have to drop their tank, we dont.....And that short cut you sent me a link to, you want me to cut a hole in the side of my car???

your gonna have to lower the tank, its not that hard to do. and as stated the silver cover under the rear seat is for the sending unit for the gage.

With a lift and proper tools.
Took me longer to drop the tank then it takes me to change a head gasket...

My civic isn't worth much to anyone but me, so what the hell, its not like its a ITR or anything....
