Car will not go past 5,500rpms????/
The car is a 1990 lx accord , 5 speed . 188,000miles on her..its all stock...the car will no go past 5,500 rpm...it just stops, it does't feel like its hitting the rev limter it just stops.my guess are the the distributor is off a automatic or some thing...any help will be appreciate
Thanks Mark T
Thanks Mark T
Also, is she fast or slow to hit 5.5 ??
Any other problems, overheating - even mild??
Somewhat hard starting ? Possible clogged exhaust or cat-converter.
Valve adjustment or hydraulic ??
IMO, being off a tooth on the T-belt would give problems at 4 grand or sooner.

my friend's 98 Accord did something similar at 3500 rpm, except it felt like it was hitting a rev limiter, only worse. He burned out his oil, problem solved after we added oil.

My car has been doing this for over a year, I've replaced just about anything that I can think of and it still does it. The catch is, it only does it after driving 15-30mins in my car, before that it runs perfectly fine.
It doesn't smoke or anything, it just literally stops revving, like it is running out of gas, air, something. It starts slowing down around 4kish and usually stops revvning around 5-5.5kish.
On a 14 year old car, well, it could be a bunch of things.
Is it doing this only on hard acceleration?
1. check compression
2. check the condition of your sparkies and wires.
3. when it the last time you did a tune-up?
It could well be fuel related. Your engine may be starving for fuel at those revs. If you have the original gas tank, it may well be the fuel strainer is clogged up due to alot of debris in the tank. THat would make sense since, if it does it only on hard acceleration when b/c of the suction created...

So far I've replaced/swapped out
FPR - switched to adjustable one, fp seems normal
Tried 2 differ ECUs, one was a programmable one w/ vtev, egr, etc turned off
Coil and Ignitor in my Distributor
Added Oil Pressure Guage, oil pressure is normal
Added A/F guage, SOMETIMES when it cuts out it read lean, but most of the time it still reads full rich while it still does it.
It has done this ever since I put my new motor in it, my old motor blew up. It does have a LX bottom end w/ an EX head on it, but the bottom ends are
identical, so I'm pretty not thats not the culprit.
The only thing that I haven't replaced that I most likely am going to do is the fuel pump.
Another thing that I have noticed is that the shop who welded my o2 bung onto my custom exhaust (it was put on w/ the new motor) raised the bung a little higher than normal, so not as much as the sensor is in the exhaust, not sure if that would cause a problem.
Like I stated earlier, cars runs PERFECT the 1st 15-25mins of driving, then it begins to act up.

This could be somewhat related to the O2 sensor, since the engine needs to build up some heat in order for the sensor to 'kick in', but i would not look at it at this point. What i would like to see is the fuel pressure when you are at those rpms. Have you done this yet?
With all honesty, i doubt it is the pump. But it could be depending on its age. At first glance i suspect that is it starving for fuel and the first test would be a fuel pressure test.

Yeah, sorry about that, I've made a few posts about this problem over the past ~1.5yrs, so I figured everyone knew about it
Anyways, my fuel pressure guage is under my hood, so next time I drive the car (its not a daily driver) and it cuts out, i can pull over and rev it up and see what the fuel pressure does, oh yeah, it does cut out when you rev it up in neutral once it starts to cut out as well.

Mine has done the same thing after replacing camshaft I think it's a fuel problem cuz when I look at the spark plugs only 1 thread is discolored and when I hit 5500 rpm it hesitate and acts like it was the to go father but won't
