HELP on tuning an ls
i've got a 91 ls (b18a1) w/: stage 2 cams, valve springs/ti retainers, cam gears, header, exhaust, hi flow cat, skunk2 intake manifold, 255lph fuel pump, str fuel rail, 275cc injectors, fuel pressure regulator, intake, throttle body spacer, external ignition coil, jet programmed ecu, and completely removed rev limiter. To tell you the truth, i am not satisfied with the amount of power that my car SHOULD be producing. I'm thinking about getting some tuning, but with what? Does anyone know what would be the best steps in tuning my car cheaply, yet effectively? Is there anyway i could do it myself, or do i have to go to someone? thanks for the help!
expected power huh, with what!
the only real power adder you do have is cams and there not even that aggresive to feel the kick buddy everything else is basically a support (lets call it that for now). Im not trying to sound like an *** but you spent the money the wrong way to make power and dont even have anything to tune.
first off what do you plan to do with this car is it drag/autocross/or simply be somewhat fast on the streets to cruise.
What were you expecting to be producing power wise?
Things you didnt need to buy, fuel rail, throttle body spacer, jet programmed ecu injectors (for now), fuel pump (for now).
here is a list of things you should have spent your money on if its all motor
1.Port and polish if not port match the intake manifold and exhaust mani.
2.more aggresive cams (crower 404, 405) would have been my pick, crane makes good one too.
3.Higher compression pistons p30 would work fine
and many other types of combination or simply just add some nitrous and go.
I personaly own a 94 RS B18B that had nitrous 50shot and ran consistent 13.7-13.9 with nitto 555r and full interior and A/C, P/S.
Peace out and more then happy to help out or give any advise

thanks for the 'advise'. I would never throw nitrous on my car, it's just not my style for speed. I think that if you are going to have a truly fast car, it should show it all the time, not just when you hit the little red button. As for compression, i like the stock ls compression, as it is lower, and can take more abuse than say a vtec, possibly from turbo. Port and polish sounds like a good idea, but i wasn't asking for recommendations on where to go with my car, thanks anyway tho. I have crane cams in my car, and i definetly could make more power by advancing/retarding the timing. As for the fuel pump and injectors, they aren't going to hurt the performance, but rather improve it, as they needed replacing anyhow. The throttle body spacer, well, it's pointless pretty much, but it makes a cool sound, haha. The jet chip sucks by the way, but it can only help when i get into the high rpm's.
well if your goin to turbo your car no point in tunning now unless that is in the distant future, dyno time is pretty expensive. If you want to stay all motor head work and higher compression are a must, The non vtec motors have low compression and aggressive cams arent worth much on such a low cr. If your boosting, your goin to need to sell off your header, most likley change out ur exhaust and unless u can use ur intake for a charge pipe sell that too.
So honestly you prob wont be making that much power untill you decide which way your going

so you're saying to raise the compression. What would be a good compression ratio to go for? What pistons could i use that are affordable? How high do you think i could rev with stock pistons and rods? Should i get a thicker head gasket to help the higher compression? Thanks for these answers in advance.
