Default Who changed their timing belt only at 105000 miles?

This is the recommendation for Honda in USA on 4 cyl. gen 6 (7yrs/168000km). In Canada, it is reduced to 60000 miles (100000km)

It seems a bit late, but we rarely hear about failures before on this model. Do we?

I am at 80000 miles. I want to wait until 90000 miles. How safe is it?

Does it happen often that after having changed crank and camshaft seals that they leak?

The last time I had a timing belt changed on my car (old Audi), I was left stranded on the road 6 months after with a bill of 2000$CAD....

The manual says to change it at 70,000 miles or 7 years, which ever comes first.

your manual says that? funny... mine says 105k miles. and the service department at the dealership i worked at: 105k miles....

anyway, i changed mine at 95k, and i know a lot of people in my area that didn't change it until around there and never encountered any problems. however, since you're in canada the conditions are different, although i'm not sure how much of a difference it would actually make. if you're concerned about it, i'd say to go ahead and change it. i wouldn't want to have to deal with repairing the damages from a broken timing belt.

as for the seals, as long as everything's done correctly, i see no reason for them to leak afterwards.

Everyone told me 90k but I stretched it to 110k. Shop gave me the old belt and it looked fine. However better safe than sorry.

put it this way, if you think it will give you a problem, its best to change it out right now when you think you might be borderline, than wait and have to pay for the damage of a broken one...

I did mine at 75k or so. I'd rather pay for preventative maintanance than repairs....

I may have missed it, what year honda were you referring?
I have a 93 accord and don't have the owners manual to the recommendation. My mechanic says 90k-105k, but other websites i have seen has 70k

I did mine at 95K and the belt and waterpump were still good.

Anyway, according to Majestic Honda (hondaautomotiveparts.com):

Timing Belt Replacement: Every 90,000 miles or 72 months (1996 and older) - Every 105,000 miles or 84 months (1997 and newer)
